Sorry, but Rush is wrong on this one. James Bond is a fictional character. Your examples of white people playing non-fictional black characters is inappropriate and frankly ludicrous.
There is no artistic or cinematic reason James Bond couldn’t be black. To suggest otherwise opens the door to being accused of racism, and rightfully so.
Actually James Bond is not a fictional character. Ian Flemming took a real life secret agent during WW2 and then wrote stories based on this character. The James Bond name came from a real life person also.
...with a well-established Anglo-Saxon back-story.
I think Isdra is a great actor. He was fabulous as Stringer Bell. I could even see him as Bond James Bond, but then I don't go out of my way to see a Bond James Bond movie.
I think the franchise owners should do whatever they want, but a black Annie didn't play too well. My bet is they are more interested in box office returns than political correctness.
“There is no artistic or cinematic reason James Bond couldnt be black”.
I strongly agree with you. There are many black actors capable of performing the role.
It is also my opinion Rush is entitled a different point of view and should not be labeled a racist for sharing it.
Flemming wrote the first Bond book 1952. Could\Would Bond be black Scot in 1952 ?
thank heavens they didn’t make a movie on the Kramdens being black....oh wait...nevermind.
“There is no artistic or cinematic reason James Bond couldnt be black. To suggest otherwise opens the door to being accused of racism, and rightfully so.”
You neglected your “SARCASM” flag on your post .
Sorry, but Rush is wrong on this one. James Bond is a fictional character.”
A “fictional” character is the intellectual property of the writer/author, and unless the copyright/franchise is sold, it should remain as created.
Rush’s point is, nothing is as good as the original. .
There are number of blacks in Scotland.... Scottish music is African....but a black Janes Bond would be a satire....
Aside from someone called James Bond corresponding to Flemings fictional character, a relevant question NOW is whether the British secret services have any black employees engaged in Bond type work. After all, the portrayal of Jesus has changed with the times. Byzantine portrayals are generally darkish skinned, black haired and black bearded while 20th Century American are usually fair haired, light skinned, no beard.
Sean will always be the best Bond. I do not like any of the newer ones.
I don't agree. Fleming's creation was portrayed as a white man, from the society in which he originated. There is nothing racist about that, just the fact of the matter.
Are blacks so pitiful that they need to be placated and patronized in this manner? Please. As someone of mixed heritage, Ii is an insult to one's intelligence that Hollywood feels the need to treat blacks as children. We are all adults, let's start acting like it.
By your “logic” Uncle Tom could be played by Betty White. If you disagree you’re opening yourself up to being called a racist and a sexist.
You must be joking. Why stop at just black? Let's make Bond a Palestinian transvestite.
So Oprah plays Scarlett O’Hara? When does a Thai girlie boy get the part?
Other than the fact that his creator, Ian Fleming, made him a white Scotsman. That's who he is.
A black James Bond is as miscast as a white Shaft. Or a male Miss Marple.
To interject a racist component into it is, well, just silly.
Gone With the Wind is fictional.
Why can’t Rhett Butler and Scarlett be black? Or have Mammy white?
The fact is, Ian Fleming isn’t around to defend himself and his concepts from people who would butcher it even further than it has been.
Why even call him James Bond?
James Bond was a WHITE Scotsman. Not a black man.
So, was James Bond a fictional white guy or a fictional guy whose race was unknown? That is relevant. If he was a fictional white guy, then it is stupid to change that for PC purposes. Calling that racism is also ape-stupid. We have dumbed down our definition of racism so much that it now includes things that aren’t even bad.
Sorry, but you are dead wrong on this one. The character has been around since the 1950s with the same backstory. There is nothing there that remotely suggests he isn’t anything other than white. Rush should form a syndicate with other Conservatives and buy out Sony when it’s value crashes and do precisely what you suggest with well known Black films just to prove his point.
Excuse me but I think you should refer to your own tagline on this one!!!
