Can't excerpt since it's the Detroit Free Press.
“White kids had best wise up to the new black racist environment the Bamster has created for America. Race hates murder makes no sense to them so they are sitting ducks. White kids who are not around Blacks much would never dream that Blacks could be racist in a murderous way....”

In addition to the 3 white suburban Grosse Point kids, there was a “16-year-old boy from Detroit” in the car. If the Detroit guy is a black kid, there is a possibility that he was a drug supplier and the shooting could be part of a Detroit drug “turf war”.
If it was not part of a drug turf war then the most likely explanation IMHO is that is was a racial hatred type of shooting. They (my educated assumption is that the shooters were black) were certainly trying to kill as many of the car’s occupants as they could.
Condolences to GPUL students, parents and the communities.
I’d really rather walk in a Detroit blackout than some parts of Chicago during the day. At least in Detroit I can legally return fire.
The neighborhoods around the downtown area are becoming gentrified and getting much better. The eastern neighborhoods at the edge of the city are among the worst.
Good point, 'creek. That makes a difference. (Best not to put yourself in any "situation" though)
For those who came in late: when I replied with the third reply there was NO link under the title. The Admin Mod added it after the fact.

The last time I was in Detroit, I drove through it as quickly as I could...in the daytime.
I grew up on Philip but bow Jefferson near the river. Our old house is one of the few standing. It’s incredible what the area has become. A pheasant flew over my car as I drove down Philip.
All those houses were flats of two families. Thousands of people voted with their feet.
When we moved to Grosse Pointe it was quite a culture shock.
My plant was on the corner of Conner and Charlevoix and for the almost 35 years I worked there, there almost always would be a pheasant or two seen out in the storage yard running amongst the racks.......The last year I was there, 2006, I almost hit one with my car that flew from my right to left about a half block from Conner on Charlevoix...
Charlevoix and Conner: Budd Company?
Yep, 1972 - 2006..........
