A couple is still shaken up after they were robbed at gunpoint in a Lenexa neighborhood when trying to check out a car they found on Craigslist.
The Petersons went to the Lenexa home on Hauser Street and knocked on the door, but nobody answered. They said it looked as though nobody lived in the house. Then, a little black car pulled up and three people robbed them.

A cc Glock 41 usually prevents this sort of thing from happening. I guess not everyone can live in KY, though. :-D
Yup. Be careful of sketchy neighborhoods.
Do your homework and Google an address first before you stop there to complete a transaction.
When they went out for a test ride, the guy pulled a gun on him, demanded his cell phone and wallet then kicked him out of the car and drove off
I prefer American made, Colt works for me. You have the right idea.
” the guy pulled a gun on him, demanded his cell phone and wallet then kicked him out of the car and drove off “
Fairly competent scumbag.
That’s terrible. I’ve done Craig’s List transactions several times. My sister does them all of the time. Usually it is perfectly fine. There is risk in anything.
One time while sitting in a McDonald’s a pack of robbers came in — fortunately they only robbed the restaurant, not customers. But to avoid that sort of thing one would have to never eat out.
Be safe, yes. But these people thought they were being safe.
It’s been about ten years, but a man from SC selling a car was kidnapped and taken to TN and killed, from a Craigslist AD.
Yes, usually okay, but always take someone with you or be in a public place with people around, when showing a vehicle or whatever. I would not let anyone come to my home from Craigslist.
I have family who get good deals from Craigslist, and have sold things on Craigslist, but they do have someone with them every time.
Although I guess that there are sketchy neighborhoods in Lenexa, generally it is an upscale suburban location. My guess is that the marks were told to go what the bad guys knew to be a vacant house and then they showed up and robbed them. Evil.
I am not sure that was a particularly bad neighborhood. Sometimes good deals can be found in the low rent district. They have stuff to sell, too. Odds of crime are higher, though. But if you flip it around and YOU are the seller, you get what you get.
I have googled buyers and sellers before, just to be sure. It has always been perfectly fine. That is a good idea.
Craigslist has risks. I don’t use it,I use eBay, oppressive fees and all.
That’s terrible. Was the car ever recovered?
Note to self... Add No Carjackers to standard message of No Scammers when I use CL
I met Mrs. 2ndDivisionVet on Craigslist.
It was a scheme probably planned from the start when they posted on Craigslist. Thieves now use legitimate sites to go after people.
That’s neat. Love can happen at time and in any place.
But wasn’t it just as risky with a newspaper ad?
I had a scary experience once with someone ringing my doorbell. I opened the door and the guy reached to open my storm door. I got there first and locked it. He looked surprised and asked me if I needed any yard work done. Behind him was a car in the street that was running and someone else was in it. It may still have been legit but I felt very uncomfortable. Needless to say I did not hire him.
She was the only one that responded to my very unusual personal ad.
Through buying and selling or social network?
When you buy and sell cars, meet the person inside the bank or at DMV only.
