It’s been about ten years, but a man from SC selling a car was kidnapped and taken to TN and killed, from a Craigslist AD.

Yes, usually okay, but always take someone with you or be in a public place with people around, when showing a vehicle or whatever. I would not let anyone come to my home from Craigslist.

I have family who get good deals from Craigslist, and have sold things on Craigslist, but they do have someone with them every time.

But wasn’t it just as risky with a newspaper ad?

I had a scary experience once with someone ringing my doorbell. I opened the door and the guy reached to open my storm door. I got there first and locked it. He looked surprised and asked me if I needed any yard work done. Behind him was a car in the street that was running and someone else was in it. It may still have been legit but I felt very uncomfortable. Needless to say I did not hire him.
