Attack Is Suspected as North Korean Internet Collapses
The New York Times ^ | December 22, 2014 | Nicole Perlroth and David E. Sanger

North Korea’s already tenuous links to the Internet went completely dark on Monday after days of instability, in what Internet monitors described as one of the worst North Korean network failures in years.

The loss of service came just days after President Obama pledged that the United States would launch a “proportional response” to the recent attacks on Sony Pictures, which government officials have linked to North Korea. While an attack on North Korea’s networks was suspected, there was no definitive evidence of it.

Doug Madory, the director of Internet analysis at Dyn Research, an Internet performance management company, said that North Korean Internet access first became unstable late Friday. The situation worsened over the weekend, and by Monday, North Korea’s Internet was completely offline....

We are getting are arses kicked on the Cyber front...and the enemies of the US know it...

I just passed my CHFI exam today to finalize over a yr and half of cyber warfare training...and I still have my CEH to gain soon...The US went from Counter-insurgency right into a huge cyber front they were unprepared for...Cyber Command is scrambling for qualified and certified people who are willing to get a SSBI and polygraph....and there’s not enough college grads with IT security degrees that want the US govt digging into their lives...current soldiers/officers are being re-trained and re-tasked for this purpose - but it takes time....welcome to the eBattlefield!

You bring up an interesting point. The NORKs have a satellite (I seem to recall three, but without doubt one) floating around in orbit and no one really knows what its actually doing up there. Some have said it is tumbling in orbit and “dead”, others have said it could be a secret emp (fringe, I know).

I wouldn't be to boisterous about the capabilities of the NSA or any other MIC electronic warfare unit.
While the Norks maybe on the receiving end of a big F#÷% you, we the citizens of the USA are nothing to the pyschopaths that control the military.
In fact, what's not to say that that if the USA is responsible for the hack attack on the Norks, that we aren't inviting a military response from them with the desired result of chaos and death in America while playing the victim card. Time to rally around the flag as our BS economy and currency gets militarized and martial lawed.

I think it borders on criminal negligence, that the powers that be allowed is us to fall behind our enemies, but better late than never I guess.

That is sooo funny. I wish I could see and hear how that little NORK Maggot is reacting to having his plug pulled!!!

There is going to be a live test of the American Internet, courtesy of the NKs. All the weakness in the system will be exposed, at least it's not the Russians or the Chinese.

There’s a guy in Langley right now who’s sole mission is to find the old Cap’n Crunch whistles on eBay, Craigslist, etc... to deny them to the enemy. He will spend 3X their gross domestic product of our tax money doing so before someone tells him they work on THEIR phone network still, not ours.

I think it’s us.

I base this on what Maria Harf from the State Dept promised ... That the retaliation would include things that can be seen, and things that cannot be seen.

Otherwise I agree about Barky.
