From John Pelham, JEB Stuart’s captain of horse artillery.
I’d read Shelby Foote’s account of Fredericksburg and I admired Pelham’s role, as many do. As it turns out I had an ancestor at Fredericksburg but it wasn’t Pelham.
2000 was the first year I did not get an income tax refund and had to pay....

When they went to spend the summer at their dacha, the mom would go for a walk with the fox in her arms because it was small and subject to predators.
When that summer was over, the family returned to the city and left the little fox behind, entrusting its care to a neighbor. The little fox disappeared and was never seen again.
They had named the fox Aliska.
Here are some adorable pictures of small Russian foxes:

There are a couple cuter and much different ones on there but I think Aliska was much like this.
FWIW (another hill of beans) I have returned to graduate school at the tender age of well over 50, and numerous textbooks brainwash these kids to think that:
a) George W. and the powerful GOP stole the 2000 election and
b) The Electorial College was a grand scheme by slave owners to keep white men in power.
I was on my annual Thanksgiving vacation to the Central California coast....on my hostess’ computer (before traveling laptop), in my allotted hour. All of a sudden we had to sign in with a screen name. Having no creativity, and very little computer time, that’s all I could think of....boring, but accurate. d:o)
I had two previous long-term names. Tried to leave but ultimately came back. My name makes reference to those identities and to the many FReepers I saw come and go. I really miss some of them.
I do not remember my first sign up date. It was before Clinton’s impeachment because I remember spending many hours here during that time.
I was out for a few years for various personal reasons. I tried to sign up 2 or 3 times and got banned each time within about 1 week or less. So i thought very hard and remembered my old password. It is very hard to last as a newbie these days.
BTW, don't look at my tagline....
Bigfoot and Elvis were already taken.
You were still a taxpayer before 2000. You just had enough held out of your checks to cover it.
John Chrysostom (347407), archbishop of Constantinople, said this about friendship: Such is friendship, that through it we love places and seasons; for as . . . flowers drop their sweet leaves on the ground around them, so friends impart favor even to the places where they dwell.
Jonathan and David illustrate the sweetness of a true friendship. The Bible records an intimate and immediate bond between them (1 Sam. 18:1). They kept their friendship alive by demonstrating their loyalty to each other (18:3; 20:16, 42; 23:18), as well as nurturing it by expressions of concern. Jonathan gave gifts to David (18:4) and watched out for him through many difficulties (19:1-2; 20:12-13).
In 1 Samuel 23:16, we see the highest moment of their friendship. When David was a fugitive on the run from Jonathans father, Jonathan, Sauls son, arose and went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God. Friends help you find strength in God during the low points of life.
In a world where most relationships are about what we can get, let us be the type of friends who focus on what we can give. Jesus, our perfect Friend, demonstrated for us that greater love has no one than this, than to lay down ones life for his friends (John 15:13).
