In a near-miraculous recovery, a dog that was on a boat that sank in Richardson Bay during Thursday's storm swam a mile to shore, walked to a church she had visited with her animal guardian and was reunited with him in an emotional meeting two days later. Daisy, a brown and white pit bull belonging to Sausalito resident Stephen Alioto, was reunited with Alioto Saturday morning at the Marin Humane Society after a chain of events that ranks as, at the very least, improbable, not to mention heartwarming. "My neighbor told me there was a soaking wet, shivering dog crouched in the church doorway around 7:30 a.m. Thursday," said the Rev. Paul Mowry of the Sausalito Presbyterian Church. "Initially, I thought she was just a lost dog."
The pastor notified Sausalito police and the Marin Humane Society, who sent an officer to scan Daisy's microchip. The chip yielded two phone numbers. "I tried the secondary number a couple of times and got somebody who said the dog, Daisy, had been given away to a good friend, Steve. And we (the church) have a Steve who comes to our free lunches on Wednesday," Mowry said. "He lived on the boat with Daisy." The next day, on Friday, a distraught Steve reported his lost dog to Sausalito police.

What a smart dog, I’m glad this story has a happy ending!
Steve Alioto? Alioto is a somewhat famous name around the North Bay. There was Mayor Joseph Alioto , the 36th Mayor of San Francisco, and his children now lawyers Angela and Joe Jr. On the other hand, if this guy was in need of a donated 50lb bag of dog food, he probably is not related.
Oh yeah!
Ogm it’s an evil child-killing pitbull!!!!
Animal Guardian?
Can they say owner? master?
Glad the dog made it but I hate that kind of PC stuff.
Of course how Alioto survived is not even mentioned.

Because “Mafioso” was already taken..
“I told him the dog showed up at the church. He started sobbing and threw his arms around me,” Mowry said.
There’s a good doggie.
Just kidding.
Ha Ha! Many Oldtimers around here would quietly agree with you.
Steve Alioto had everything he loved on the boat in Sausalito, anchored out because he couldnt afford a dock. He returned to the boat after helping a friend during Thursdays storm to find his home had sank.
All I saw was the mast sticking out of the water, Alioto said.
Also on board was Steves constant companion, Daisy. Im big daddy Kibbles and Bits. Im the guy who provides the dog food, the walks, the baths, and everything that she tells me she needs.
Steve thought she had gone down with the ship, but Daisy had escaped and found her way to shore.
awww... i cannot imagine a pitbull swimming a mile!
Great Dog, not so much for the owner.
The poor guy has lost everything he owns and is down on his luck but seems happy to have his dog.
Pit bulls are sweet, loving and loyal.
Unfortunately, its bad dogs bred for aggressiveness and illegal dog fighting that’s gotten the breed its notoriety.
And dogs like Daisy come along to remind us just how much our dogs love us.
I’m happy to hear of a happy ending.
We have a sailboat docked in Ventura. They had almost a mini hurricane in this last storm so I texted my neighbor to see if our boat was still there. lol She told me they had like a mini tornado run through the marina.
This last storm was nasty.
