Those were civil suits, not criminal actions.

In California for a child abuse case to still remain active the child abuse had to occur several times over an extended period of time.

Some of the cases against the Catholic Church met that criteria. I don't believe the case against Cosby met that criteria.

This was a relatively recent change in California law.
