Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is filming the next season of the show Amazing America with the most recent episode taking place in Texas. It involved a hunt for feral hogs, with Palin bagging a rather large one. Of course, this was pretty much the end of civilization as we know it.
While taping her reality show in Texas, Sarah Palin proudly announced her killing of a feral hog and happily posed with the dead animal.
She ended up posting the picture online, and it was ultimately met with both praise and criticism
Upon killing the animal, Palin took to Facebook to do some boasting about the creature she just slaughtered.
Everythings bigger in Texas! the reality star and former politician wrote alongside a photo of her and the dead hog.
Speaking as someone who has slaughtered more than a few of God’s creatures in his time and discovered a variety of techniques for making them delicious, I understand that there are people who are opposed to hunting. I’ve heard the complaints. Why do you have to shoot Bambi? Well, it’s because Bambi is pretty delicious, but that’s a story for another day.
Palin was hunting feral hogs. So for the critics out there who largely consider themselves to be the party of science, might you consider taking the word of the Smithsonian?
Wild hogs are among the most destructive invasive species in the United States today. Two million to six million of the animals are wreaking havoc in at least 39 states and four Canadian provinces; half are in Texas, where they do some $400 million in damages annually. They tear up recreational areas, occasionally even terrorizing tourists in state and national parks, and squeeze out other wildlife.
Texas allows hunters to kill wild hogs year-round without limits or capture them alive to take to slaughterhouses to be processed and sold to restaurants as exotic meat. Thousands more are shot from helicopters. The goal is not eradication, which few believe possible, but control.
While I’ve not done it personally, I’ve heard plenty of accounts which say that feral hogs are difficult to cook in a way that produces the bacon, chops and BBQ that you’re used to, but it can be done. Some programs allow hunters to donate them to feed the homeless. That’s really not the point here, though. Even if you are opposed to hunting in general, feral hogs are a menace. Once they got out into the wild and bred with native boar, they quickly became one of the most successful species in North America. They breed prodigiously and have few natural predators. They tear up the landscape and can be incredibly aggressive.
Sarah Palin will unfortunately not be able to make a dent in the hog population in Texas even if she stayed for the entire year with an unlimited supply of ammo. Spare us the sanctimonious sighs and comments about the cruelty of slaughtering God’s creatures. She’s doing everyone a very small favor and somebody will probably get a meal out of the deal.
Used a .30-30 with 180gr soft points in a Winchester 94 across a game trail that ran parallel to a dry wash.
Seemed to work ok...
A few years ago, I was with a group of young men doing some trail maintenance in the Smoky Mountains. The ranger working with us was a vegan. After teasing her about her leather boots (required to wear) we talked about feral hogs. This girl was full blown PETA except for feral hogs. Kill ‘em all was her attitude.
I Love Sarah and animals, I love all God`s creatures, have had a pet raccoon was just like a cat, we found him and his brother on the road beside his dead mother. We kept one my cousin took the other.
Our raccoon was named Moe, we had him for 12 years until he was hit by a car , he slept on our beds, used the kitty litter box, went in and out with the cats, was a wonderful loving fellow, he used to put his arms around your neck and hug, while he made this cool kinda purring sound.
I also rescue Dogs and cats and am heartbroken by the cruelty shown them by spca`s dog pounds etc.
Yes I am a meat eater and have no problem with hunting etc, but every time I read threads like these they almost come across as if Conservatives dont like animals, I know this is not the case, but thats how it comes across to a lot of people.
I have people say to me, i am surprised that you are interested at all in the plight of suffering animals, being that you are a conservative
Yes I stop on the highway to move a turtle off the road, I take in homeless dogs and cats, I dont blowup a possum on my front yard, I bring the dog in and the possum goes away.
I know a skunk and a porcupine as well , my old neighbor down the road has a pet skunk rescued off the road, he is a hunter as well, you can see the skunk sitting on the back of the chesterfield looking out the window most days, he is very happy and is just like a cat, loves to be patted and is one of the family.
A wonderful indian woman near me (I live in the country) she has a sanctuary for pretty much any animal you can think of, she takes in Bear cubs raccoon’s, porcupines dear etc, they are either injured or just to young to look after themselves
They are all treated and released back into the wild once they recover with rare exception, I help her out when I can
She has no connection with Peta, she just does this out of her big heart, on donations from anybody that offers, actually a big operation.
So when we hear Conservatives dismissing anybody that helps animals as “animal rights” that has a negative handle because of some of the stuff the liberal groups have done, but it comes across as if Conservatives just dont like animals, I know this is not the case.
No problem with hunting, I am a meat eater, but I respect the animals, and my heart breaks for them when they suffer.
I took a gun course some years ago, the instructor talked about blowing up a porcupine just for kicks, I was offended...I patted a porcupine at the sanctuary, beautiful animal just like a cat or a dog.
I certainly do not respect killing for the sake of killing, if the meat is eaten wonderful.
I am a big Sarah Palin supporter, was just saying something that I have always wanted to say...
Bo Derek once said people say to her...I am so surprised that you like animals being that you are a Conservative or Republican
Lots of people here at Free Republic feel as I do absolutely, but am guessing assuming I will get trashed here as well, but that`s OK I dont give a crap
I am a pro life conservative Christian, I am a meat eater, I have no problem with hunting for food, just my opinion
And gfor anybody that wants to attack me, go for it, but just let me say eff off in advance
Well I’m droolin over the pig. Just sayin. LOL!
She only shot one?!?! C’mon, Sarah, you can do better than that!
And yet it’s perfectly OK for Jebbie to announce his presidential intentions on Facebook, right?
So you’re against social media and capitalism?
A twofer!
I’m impressed. That’s a mighty big hog.
Gov Palin is awesome. I want to be like her when I grow up.
Just for s**** & giggles, someone should photoshop bozo in Gov Palin’s place and add a puff of smoke coming out of the rifle.
I'm especially adverse to being played by politicians who I support and respect because it makes it harder to support and respect them.
I would live to see a Sarah Palin Presidency by pimping blogs and reality shows is simply not Presidential, IMHO
But then again, who cares what I think

LOL!
lol
LOL
Good for Sarah for being in a position to publicize the unbelievable population boom of these wild monster hogs and the damage they do to the habitat and agriculture.
Would it not be entertaining to for our military to round up some of these and use them as weapons?
They would be one heck of a force multiplier — stampede a few sounders of them towards the enemy before our guys advance and watch the fun.
“Let them tear up a subdivision of 1%ers manicured lawns and see how fast they call for total extermination.”
Might be fun to “relocate” a few inside some gated communities and watch what happens...
No wonder Gov Palin is the only American Putin respects and fears
There is an Australian magazine for women sporting shooters who hunt feral pigs. It is called “Chicks Smashing Grunters.”

Partly, this is the Australian sense of humour on display. But it is also quite serious. Shooting is an important rural sport, and feral pigs are no joke.
You got that right...
