Monday, at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey, during an address to the troops, President Obama made a joke that they are like "'Santa in Fatigues," which was received with complete silence, prompting the president to nervously name-drop the military aircraft C-130 to evoke a response.
President Obama said, "We are free and safe and secure over here because you are willing to serve over there," adding "You never stop serving, you never stop giving, you guys are like Santa in fatigues. Although I bet one of those C-130's is a little more efficient then Santa's sleigh."

What a disgusting, disrespectful, pompous puke
I would venture to guess that ALL of those who were there, were told to go. A few may have wanted to go, but the vast majority probably didn't want to be there. They would have had to drag me kicking and screaming to see that individual.
0bama sees himself as Santa Claus.
0bama prolly thought his quip would be taken as a compliment
As some of my associates usedtacould say “Target!”
After years of watching the body language of troops when talking to them to ensure that I knew when to shut up, as well as watching their body language when DVs were talking to see how they felt about it, those were some not wanting to be there troopers.
Hmmmm - maybe they got word of the slashed pay raise and BAH reduction passed yesterday? Brilliant timing by the White Staff....
PBS actually covered 0’s lame attempt at a joke. The unsmiling faces and silence were obvious. The attempted recovery involving the C-130s was edited out.
I listened to it also. I think that what saw was just that they were just there cause the commanding officer told them to be. The silence to me.. was complete boredom. They just have no use for the man at all.
Whoah there look at the number on that Hercules!
Anybody remember that scene in The 'Burbs? The one with Art and Ray daring each other to ring the doorbell?
Or should I say, to use the door knocker..
Oh My.
That’s the most disrespectful thing i have ever heard in my life.
Many of those attending the event were not impressed by the empty chair standing before them.
Probably more voluntold but some of the volunteers may have moved to the other side after actually seeing this doofus in person...
Soon they will have to put “applause” signs in the front of the speakers platform to get the proper optics...
Dear Reader will not be disrespected...
I’d say unbelievable - but it’s not, anymore! :-(
lord of the flies.
I heard a Navy recruiting radio ad recently that was focused on the Navy as a delivery service for aid to disaster victims around the globe.
Santa in fatigues? Yep. That’s exactly what Obola sees as the prime responsibility of the US military.
Thanks for that context. He is really laying it on thick, rubbing salt in their wounds, makes the comment so much worse.
The pos isn’t even giving the troops eye contact.
Notice the two tele-prompters set up close left and right. That’s strictly for tight TV shots, to make it appear he’s scanning the troops faces while leaving the TOTUS’s out of the shot. He’s oblivious to their reaction. Canned speech and he’s out of there. Steal another flight jacket and scoot.
Try to recall the venues when he’s addressing “his folks”. There he is fully engaged with his audience. Not so with troops. His disdain has to be evident to the troops.
