Peg Brokaw, 95, had missed the early Saturday morning Mass at St. Rose of Lima, on Church Hill Road in Newtown, but said she would go inside and say a prayer, anyway. She has lived in this town a long time, and tells you her son is a retired policeman here, one who still directs traffic in front of the church occasionally.
And because this was another December in Newtown, two years now since 20 children and six adults were shot dead inside Sandy Hook Elementary, because Peg Brokaw stood outside what became the church of small coffins in Newtown, she was asked about that day.
It is, she said, the kind of sadness that lives forever.
Behind her, underneath the statue of the Blessed Virgin in front of St. Rose, there is a memorial to that sadness, a lovely mural sent to Msgr. Robert Weiss to commemorate the second year since the shooting, the names of the dead of Sandy Hook listed in small, colorful boxes. After Mass on this morning men and women of the church had been setting white candles on the walkway leading to the statue, and the mural.
When theyre lit I imagine it will look like a stairway to heaven, Peg Brokaw said....

No, that’s what happened.
If you choose to believe something else, that doesn’t change the truth.
Nobody ran? No one was just wounded? They just sat there and took it in the head?
Let me put it this way.
If you choose to believe Elvis is alive, it doesn’t mean he isn’t dead.
So if you choose to not believe what you SAW in Newtown, that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen the way we saw it.
The Newthers believe in a vast conspiracy which is too outlandish to even pretend to believe. You almost have to completely suspend belief in reality to accept it. It’s probably the worst of conspiracy theories.
Where are you going to run to in a room with one exit that is blocked by the shooter?
Some of the people who weren’t cornered did run, and some escaped, and yes, some were wounded and survived.
A better shot than Mr. GG2 who is a weapons expert and nationally registered sporting clays competitor. He said he could not replicate that and he has hours and hours on an AR.
“The Newthers believe in a vast conspiracy which is too outlandish to even pretend to believe.”
Oh come on, Pappy. It’s not unbelievable in the least to think that the deaths were all faked, and the entire town knew about it and kept their mouths shut, and then later those dead kids were photographed at the White House and Super Bowl. Oh, and the kids are also satanists.
That’s not hard to believe at all! /sarc
He couldn’t shoot a bunch of five year olds crammed into a closet with nowhere to run?
Attack the shooter and run over them.
My sister is a Truther and one of her friend informed me that a cruise missile hit the Pentagon on 9/11. When I remarked about all the witnesses that saw the plane heading for the Pentagon, he said they were all members of the conspiracy.
Well, that is certainly convenient. Now I know Kristinn is a well-connected member of the International Power Cabal.
Newton, whose school board voted to NOT arm their security people - vote was after the massacre.
You would think that highly trained hit operatives with Mossad and CIA training would be able to get more than 26 kids.
The Bilderbergers’ HR Dept is slipping.
If the security person had been armed, someone might have gotten hurt.
Duh.
Remember, these are 5 years olds you are talking about here, Rambo.
“The social awkwardness, the uncomfortable anxiety, unable to sleep, stress, unable to concentrate, having a hard time learning, the awkward walk, reduced eye contact,” he said.
That’s a quote from the alleged shooter’s Dad. Attributes that hardly support the theory of a small kid carrying all those weapons, finding and forcing entry into the school and being able to focus on killing that many people leaving no one alive. Not a likely scenario. There are just too many questions that have never been answered. Even the guy who was a major investigator at Columbine says its highly improbable.
It’s sad that people died at the hands of a mentally ill person. Too bad that some people don’t understand it was a mentally ill person who killed people, not a gun.
Are the teachers and admin five years old, wimp-bo?
I’m not angry. I’m passionate.
The only attribute that I see that might be problematic is concentration, but Aspergers/autistic types have no problems with concentrating when it is something they are interested in. In fact, they have superior attention spans and concentration compared to “normal” people in that case.
“There are just too many questions that have never been answered.”
In my experience, people that say this don’t really want their questions answered. If you do answer them, they will just search for more questions, ad nauseum.
“Even the guy who was a major investigator at Columbine says its highly improbable.”
Oh, well, if some unnamed guy who wasn’t actually involved in this investigation says so, then I guess I better take his word for it.
