Who Harry Reid Caved to in His Final Major Act as Majority Leader Will Blow Your Mind
Independent Journal Review ^ | December 14, 2014 | Mike Miller

Other than the Koch brothers, there is arguably no one outgoing-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid disdains more than the Tea Party. And no one represents the Tea Party in the Senate more than Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

Yet, after hours of tedious wrangling, Reid on Friday agreed to allow a vote on a measure from Cruz questioning the constitutionality of President Obama’s executive order on Deferred Action, which does, in effect, grant de facto amnesty to upwards of 5 million illegal aliens.

Cruz told Breitbart News that a Senate vote on Obama’s executive action was important for two reasons:

“First, since President Obama enacted his unilateral amnesty after the elections, Democrats have never been made to answer for it.

Tonight, they will and they will show America whether they stand with a lawless President, who is defying the will of the voters or the millions of Americans who want a safe and legal immigration system.”

“Second, it allows Republicans to also show they are committed to ending Obama’s amnesty once and for all in the next Congress.

If we agree it is indeed unconstitutional, we have no business funding it when the GOP controls Congress last year. The Constitution matters, and we must defend it. That is why we have fought so hard to ensure this vote.”

During Friday’s testy chess match between Reid and Cruz, along with Texas Senator Mike Lee, Reid sought unanimous consent to adjourn the Senate until Monday, when Senators were scheduled to vote on the CRomibus government-spending bill. Cruz and Lee objected to the unanimous consent vote.

Reid finally relented, and decided to keep the Senate in session over the weekend, during which time he agreed to allow Cruz’s point-of-order vote to proceed.

The vote, which occurred Saturday night, was expected to fail — Cruz knew it would – and it did. Unsurprisingly, all 53 Senate Democrats (along with 2 independents) voted against it. Surprising, so did all but 22 Republican Senators. (Cromnibus passed late Saturday night).

Even more surprisingly, with poll after poll continuing to show a majority of Americans opposed to Obama’s unilateral action on amnesty, 23 Republican Senators voted with the Democrats — and by extension, Barack Obama.

Now, Senate Democrats and Republicans are finally on the record over Obama’s unilateral move on amnesty. With 2016 right around the corner, Cruz got exactly what he wanted. From Harry Reid, of all people. Go figure.

23 Republican Senators voted with the Democrats — and by extension, Barack Obama.

Neither of which means anything in itself. The key point is that 23 "Republicans" voted against the Constitution of the United States.

With Apologies to Woody Guthrie:

What were their names?
Tell me, what were their names?
Do you have that list,
So we know who to blame?

What were their names?
Tell me, what were their names?
We need to expose
In the Senate who's lame.

Little consolation when people are finally waking up to the fact that our Republic is finished and has been fundamentally transformed into an Imperial Fascist Oligarchy by the approving hand of the very party the people put into power in November.

‘There is no one Harry Reid disdains more than the TEA party.’

But the left side of the aisle isn’t the only part of Congress that disdains the TEA party.

The next two years will determine the future of the GOP. Use it or lose it, boys.

I had the album Johnny Horton Makes History as a kid, and thought the song was original with him, but it was just a cover.

Woody Guthrie actually wrote the song.

Woody, Pete Seeger, and other "movement" people (read: Commies and their fellow travelers) were anxious to make the sinking of the USS Reuben James into another RMS Lusitania once the CPUSA reversed their previous isolationist policy ["Uncle Joe" was getting his ass badly kicked at the time.]

As a result, Woody and his merry men made an actually patriotic album in 1942, and American unions took a "no strike" pledge after the US entered the War Against Fascism on the side of the good guys [no, no, not the British. The Russians.]

McConnell made sure that the passage of CROMnibus would ensure that his PACs are funded TEN TIMES more than they were yesterday, thus ensuring that any possibility to ‘primary’ Ruling Class Oligarchs is now a virtual impossibility.

We are past the point of elections being able to arrest what we have been fundamentally transformed into.

Learn to embrace the suck.

It’s here.

And here to stay.

I am not giving up.

In fact, I am enjoying the challenge. I am no longer being beaten down by what is going on.

We incrementally got to where we are and we will incrementally have to head back to where we need to be.

It is a state of mind that will last me until I die. I suggest the same for you.

Cheers!

The GOP is also “the left side of the aisle”. The “right” side is increasingly empty, and was quite empty when Reagan first attempted a run at the White House too.

There isn’t an “incremental” return from a sudden collapse. That is what both Democrats and establishment Republicans are driving the country towards at full speed.

We incrementally got to where we are and we will incrementally have to head back to where we need to be.

Normalcy Bias will prove to be fatal for what is left of freedom in this country.

Incrementalism is not going to save our kids from a hard oppressive fascist tyranny that is now ruling us. History and human nature give us no examples of a subjugated people ever incrementally getting their liberty back.

Our Foundners had far more prophetic wisdom that the majority of us combined have today. 'Incrementally' getting our liberty back is as foolish as thinking we can never lose our liberty. In fact, once a people begin to suffer evil, they rationalize it, and tell themselves they can endure it and slowly get it back one day. But that is fantasy.

"all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. - Declaration of Independence.

We are already grown accustomed to tyranny, and deceive ourselves by thinking it all just a political game we can 'win back' in a few generations.

I'll let Adams speak to such thinking:

"a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty once lost is lost forever. When the People once surrender their share in the Legislature, and their Right of defending the Limitations upon the Government, and of resisting every Encroachment upon them, they can never regain it." - John Adams, Philadelphia, 1775

I think too many are going to assume their chains will rest lightly upon their necks as they willingly lick the palms of our political masters and lie to themselves that they can incrementally overcome tyranny at the ballot box.

Ted Cruz is a brilliant and fearless chess master. He relentlessly forces the lying squishes that say they are conservatives to show their true colors—on the record. I’ll bet Rubio sided with Reid and Obama.
