OTTAWA, Dec 12 (Reuters) The Royal Canadian Navy on Friday imposed an almost total ban on sailors drinking at sea, after a warship had to be recalled from an international exercise because inebriated crew members got into trouble.
Sailors had hitherto been allowed to drink off duty. Now, they will only be able to sample alcohol on special occasions such as Christmas, if the captain gives permission.

The Letters of T.S. Eliot, Volume I, 1898-1922, edited by Valerie Eliot, p. 59, letter from T.S. Eliot to Conrad Aiken. At the end of the verse Eliot writes, "The poem was declined by several musical publishers on the ground that it paid too great a tribute to the charms of German youth to be acceptable to the English public."
I put the lines down here from memory and got it slightly wrong; the first two lines should be "Now while our heroes were at sea | They pass'd a German warship."
The internet is a big place, but Google isn't the be-all and end-all of human knowledge.
It must be so; look at all the little Canadians up there!
I’m surprised they still allow anything like that these days. We have regressed in so many ways socially, treating people like dumb, helpless babies who can’t make any decisions on their own.
I recall steering my ship while on night duty. I was a petty officer. Those were the days for debauchery. I’d be steering, yes, but in my right hand, I had a More Menthol 100ml cigarette. I’n my left hand I held a styrofoam cup with Wild Turkey Bourbon. It was for my cold. The Bourbon, I mean. That would not happen today. I steered from about 10pm until 6.30am the next morning. All was well.
Nice can! Heh. A nubile Hottentot Venus, an ‘embarrassment of riches’. What’s that from? Hmmmm.
So the Canuck lady glanced at her magnificent Great Dane and replied, “Neutered? Heavens no! He’s here to have his nails clipped.”
Our Canadian friends have been great sports, by the way—thanks for playing. Come again soon ... but leave our seals alone.
I keep revisiting that magnificent caboose, I’m definitely a bottom man. I don’t care what anyone says, caww. You’re all right!
But watch out for any neighbors to the north who may have viewed that epic lady hump and become sexually inflamed. Bugger!
Will that ban be for enlisted personnel only or will officers be included?
What is your point, that Canada is a nation of warriors, when it isn’t?
Look at post 20,
The whippings will continue until morale improves
My point is that man for man, Canadians have sacrificed as much or more than any other country. The numbers may be small, but no one can doubt or question the commitment that Canada has made to peace and security worldwide, and it bloody well pisses me off when some smartass jackoff is compelled to make light of the dedication and professionalism of the outstanding patriots who proudly wear the uniform of the Canadian Armed Forces. Do I make myself clear?
Where did I say they weren't?
You are just defensive about a weak nation with a tiny military, and citizens that don’t want to serve, and don’t.
People aren’t attacking the 68,000 Canadians that serve, some of them do fine and are brave and able soldiers, but that doesn’t make up for the nation as a whole.
Canada has a population of 35 million and 158 dead in Afghanistan.
America has a population of 316 million, and 2358 dead in Afghanistan.
Texas is just a state and is not a nation, it has a population of 26 million, and has lost 187 of it’s people in Afghanistan.

“I figured thered be some dumbass making a crack about the Canadian military. Heres something for you to chew on: on a per capita basis, no country in the last 100 years has shed more sweet patriot blood in the defense of freedom than Canada - including the United States. So sod off.”
Wow. Touchy, aren’t we?
It’s no secret that all Canadian governments from Trudeau on down have gutted the CDN armed forces to the point where they are functionally useless. This is no reflection on the men and women at arms, but a reflection of the Canadian government and, by direct extension of the CANADIAN PEOPLE!
YOU have allowed this to happen - you’ve gutted the military to pay for your precious socialist health care, then look down your noses at the US, who now has to do the heavy lifting and defend your country for you.
“Sod” is short for sodomize. It means the same as “bugger off”.
Few know that all three branches of the Canadian Military , air , sea and ground have only 100,000 standing , full time members. This is a nation of some 23 million peple.
Many reserve units are in a better state of training than some portions of the CAF. Yet they can die and surrender bilingually in French and English.
Canada does not have the money to fund a military, its money goes for socialized medicine and bilingualism. This has Prime Minister Harper extremely worried, because Canada can no longer count on the USA for defence against Russia , with Obama’s isolationist policies.( Putin will expand Russian sovereignty in the Canadian artic and there is not a damn thing Canada can do about that.)
“Canadian Navy Bans Drinking at Sea”
That bites. I had a cruise planned next summer on a Canadian ship. Unfortunately it is mostly in Canada...so it looks like I’ll be canceling that.

They were at least as brave as any of the other allies in WW2, and were drawn in at the start (1939). So yes, they shed a lot of blood. Unfortunately, since the Cold War, they’ve pretty much shed their military (choosing to hitch a ride with our own gutted military) - so the the comment was valid.
