We need more babies! Seriously, this is a problem Commentary by Jake Novak We just learned that the U.S. birthrate fell for the sixth straight year in 2013 to an all-time low. Pardon me for sounding a bit alarmist, but this is really bad news for our economy, our society, and all of civilization. Let's start with the economy. I know a lot of us have been brainwashed into thinking that our natural and manufactured resources are shrinking. We're often told that we have a choice of either radically reducing our consumption or our population or we'll eventually run out of water, energy, and food. Excuse me, but this is hogwash. That's because we heard the same thing in 1714, or 1814, and probably the year 10,000 B.C. And they were wrong then too. What's the biggest reason that the doomsayers about the end of the world's resources have always been wrong on? The answer is that some members of those growing populations decided not to give up and came up with new ideas, technologies and resources to replace and improve living conditions. I'm talking about the people who have come up with the technologies to desalinate water, terrace mountainsides, drain swamps and fight disease with vaccinations and sewage treatment. I'm talking about the people who came up with kerosene to replace whale blubber, petroleum to replace kerosene, natural gas to replace petroleum, and so on and so on. All of the above came courtesy of humans. Reduce their number, and you also reduce your chances for the great innovations that make life better for the humans already on the planet and make life more comfortable and possible for billions more to join us. In short, people are our greatest resource. ...

My wife wants another one. I’m good with just the two we have. Thanks.
Part of the equation for birthrate, at least before rampant increase of out-of-wedlock births, is marriage. Many delay getting married if times are hard. Those that married in the roaring twenties were still having children during the depression.
We made the decision to not have any so they wouldn’t have to live through the total destruction of the US that was obvious at that point.

Only up to a point, regardless of what some may believe there is a finite number at which any further increase in population accomplishes nothing positive. As to what that number is and whether it has already been reached I would not attempt to say but I will say that I would rather live where there are twenty people per square mile than where there are thousands per square mile. Others may have a different preference.
I didn’t say that. I had ten kids because the commandment to Adam and Eve was be fruitful and multiply. Christians forget that.
Getting married in April......planning to contribute to the birth rate. Pray for us as we are late 30s & having what some would call a “late start”.
Lol! Off the market as of November.....wedding in April.
P.J. O’Rourke wrote a book called Eat the Rich. In it, he examimed different countries to see what made them successful or otherwise. Every chapter focused on a particular country and is an entertaining read. The undeniable conclusion (spoiler alert) was that a country’s success lies in the quality and work ethic of the population. Not raw population numbers, or even vast natural resource wealth. Just the quality not quantity of the people themselves.
We can’t afford bigger families.
The government takes the money we need for our own families and children and gives it to the victim groups they want to see grow in size.
So in a way we are supporting bigger families.
They just aren’t ours.
Stop killing babies in the womb.
It's not the having more kids, it's who is having them. Why produce more Right thinking responsible type children who will have to support the gaggle of welfare kids and the government?
proper breeding techniques.... lol
This is the Arabic character "nun" the first letter of the word "Nazarene." I post it as my avatar in solidarity with people of all faiths suffering persecution at the hands of Islam. Many of them are members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, dating from the days of the Apostles. They endure cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors they, and we, are all "Nazarenes." |
Don't try living in any city environment these days. Even largely suburban sprawling cities are tearing down their old neighborhoods of the past 80 years to put in high density apartments and 3 story townhomes (4 or more to a lot that formerly held one home).
Great quote.
Chesterton was a genius.
The 2006 movie, “Children of Men” takes place in 2027, where two decades of human infertility have left society on the brink of collapse.

Why not write a book and create a movie where people simply become so self-absorbed that they choose not have children?
