What's Behind the Rise of Transgender TV The Disney-owned cable network has handed out a straight-to-series pickup for My Transparent Life, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The docuseries, from Ryan Seacrest Productions, centers on a teen named Ben who learns his parents are not only getting a divorce, but also that his father is becoming a woman.

The series will intimately follow Ben, his family and friends as they support each other through the unexpected journey and watch Charlie slowly become Carly, as she experiences the many stages of her transition from male to female. The show is described as a generational story of a loving family and circle of friends, supporting each other through the unfamiliar and unexpected situation.

"ABC Family is best known for its complex, loving and relatable family programming, and we are so proud to partner with Ryan Seacrest Productions to share Ben's incredible real-life story," said ABC Family president Tom Ascheim. "While Ben's family situation is unusual, the themes and coming-of-age issues are universal, and we think our viewers will find a real connection to them."

Ratings will suck, cash flow will suffer and no one at ABC will care.

This is why I end up watching the likes of “Storage Wars”. At least the people are real, like me; though the items they have to get “checked out” are staged.

The great irony: ABC Family was founded by Pat Robertson as “The Family Channel.” Pat and one of his sons made upwards of $300 million on the deal; Pat put most of his share into Regent University and his ministry; his son became one of the founders of Max Media, which operates a chain of MSM radio and TV stations.

Under terms of the deal that sold The Family Channel to ABC (after a brief ownership period by Fox), Robertson’s daily show, “The 700 Club” is guaranteed a slot on the network. I’m not a big fan of Pat, but I think it’s hilarious that a secular network must air a Christian program twice a day. I’ve heard that part of the deal doesn’t end until Pat Robertson passes away, so for that reason alone, I hope he makes it to 100.

I don’t argue with that. There are a number of shows I won’t watch at all. Modern Family or whatever the name is, is one I won’t be watching. It is of interest to me what is being presented to the public at any given time though. You don’t know if you don’t at least watch some of it.

The Family Channel was started and owned in the beginning by CBN, Pat Robertson. The Family Channel turned out to be so succesful it created tax problems for the non- profit tax exempt religious CBN. Pat Robertson’s 700 Club had been running on the Family Channel.

Long story short, CBN sold ABC the Family channel promising to continue airing the 700 club then Disney buys ABC Family.

I’m sure Pat Robertson loves hearing things like this. This is akin to Jerry Falwell selling Larry Flynts smut in Liberty Universitys bookstore.

I sadly know one man who is transitioning to a woman, at the age of 54. It has ripped him family apart, his children want nothing to do with him, his parents are of course upset and bewildered and his sister, who is my dear friend, is in counseling to try and understand her sheer disdain for this action that is harming everyone. Sigh

Smiling experts assured us that we were merely throwing off the shackles of our repressed sexualities. Dissent is hate, and hate is not tolerated around here, mister, so shut up and get with the program. Well, I couldn’t get with the program, so I quit my public high school job. As a world history teacher, moving from a public school to a Christian academy (at less pay and fewer benefits) gave me a couple more years of insulation from the social wreckage cascading down.

I kept looking up for the big asteroid, but we didn’t need God to smite us from outer space. In the end, we smote ourselves with our hubris, believing that we were replacing God’s wisdom with our own. The proud decadence and in-your-face cultural perversions didn’t cause the Rupture, but they were surely flashing red signs warning that the end was near.
