This is the Tough Love Method, but after Lena Dunham and UVA-Rolling Stone fraud, and possibly in the Bill Cosby Accusations, people are becoming more skeptical. ANy pretenders are going to ruin it for the real victims which absolutely do exist.
"Take Back the Night" rallies are public events. For anyone who doesn't know, they are the secular/feminist/wiccan equivalent to an evangelical revival tent meeting. Women are encouraged to go up to a microphone and talk about their rapes/tortures/harrassments by evil men. Like the Salem witch trials, no evidence is presented or asked for that any event described actually happened. This should have been Erdely's first clue that this was crap.
It doesn't have to be any more complicated than that.
I knew a woman who walked around for days claiming in public (but not to the police) that a particular man had tried to rape her in a hotel room. I knew her well enough to press her for details, and they finally came out: She had gotten into an argument with the man, and had made him so angry that he pushed her away from him onto a bed. That was the entire "rape." There was nothing sexual about it at all. He had not tried to remove her clothes or to physically force himself on her.
What was her reason for lying? I think she simply craved the attention that she knew she would receive. The fact that the attempted rape never happened did not matter to her. All that mattered was getting the attention. She didn't even seem embarrassed.

Fake but accurate. It does not matter if the story is true. Article after article is now about rape. It is simply a device to get the subject on the front page. Period.
The next step will be pushing new laws, rules, etc. based on a lie.

As best I can piece together, the victim is uncomfortable with the truth of the “assault” so she created a new story. So while she still believes she was the victim of sexual unwantedness, the actual story would raise skepticism in almost everyone.
That’s why she created this wacky narrative.
