Texas Senator Ted Cruz is reminding Americans that no civilized nation should ever torture prisoners.
Torture is wrong, unambiguously. Period. The end. Civilized nations do not engage in torture and Congress has rightly acted to make absolutely clear that the United States will not engage in torture, Cruz said during the Q-and-A portion of a speech at the Heritage Foundation.

The reason is that they either fought to the death or committed suicide; not because of summary execution.
Such fair weather fans. No wonder we end up with people like Mitt Romney, John McCain and Bob Dole as our nominees. It's better to be plain vanilla and non-offensive than to take a controversial stand on anything.
Having to listen to a Hilary screech, I mean speech.
Is there no one that thinks as we do anymore? *sigh*
You're dodging my question.
What if "other options" failed to produce results and the only thing left was torture?
Would you decline the chance to save your loved one?
Not surprising at all, Ted is, basically, a libertarian. Although I might not agree with him, I admire him sticking to his positions.
Nope. I’m also not confused as to the difference between wrong and fair, or right and fair as it were ... whether or not torturing people for information is expedient has nothing to do with right and wrong.
Waterboarding is not torture.
There is no puncturing of skin, no stabbing, no eye gouging, no hammering of nails into limbs or ears, no breaking of bones, no burning of flesh, no stretching of limbs, no crushing of skulls, no filling the lungs with water, no placing of explosives into orifices......
We did it to 28,000 US service men, and under the UN rules waterboarding was not torture.
There may have been excessive acts committed, but we were and still at war with a highly irrational enemy that will murder themselves in order to kill innocent life. What is the context? What must we do to defend against these insane killers.
Now these liberals conveniently use hindsight, with all moral piety to judge those defending our very lives. Sorry if I cannot be indignant, because I am too grateful.
Where were these examiners when Clinton pulled billions out of the CIA in the 90’s and diminished our capacities. He left us defenseless.
[ You’re “disappointed” because Cruz is standing up for the Eight Amendment?
Torture is simply wrong. ]
Agreed!
What was described about Gitmo wasn’t technically Torture, Torture leaves physical scars... What was done at Gitmo was Psychological warfare used in order to extract information from Non-aligned soldiers who were fighting without a Nation State.
Hugh don’t take this personally but in this matter you’re plain stupid.
See posts 149 and 158 ‘va. Unbelievable. I would do ANYTHING I NEEDED TO DO to free a loved one who was a hostage. I can’t believe what I am reading here tonight. ‘Demented’? Maybe. Other terms apply also.
Hopefully in the future we can wire these people to computers via brain chip implants, knock them unconscious with drugs and extract the information painlessly without them even KNOWING we have extracted said information!!!!
Of course that will raise all sorts of other ethical issues concerning citizen rights and such.....
Your contrived scenario is irrelevant. I’m discussing one thing, you’re off on a tangent. I’m not following you.
Torture is wrong, but what we did IS NOT TORTURE. The commonly accepted definition of torture is to cause excruciating pain and bodily damage. Making someone uncomfortable, depriving them of sleep and intimidating them IS NOT TORTURE. We need to go on the offensive on this BS.
Nothing taken personally. I’ve heard it before.
Did the day nurse forget your meds?
LOL, you were following me just fine until I pressed you to answer my question. Never mind. You've answered quite clearly.
I'm thankful not to be related to you, and sorry for those who are.
Reagan would have said the exact same thing Cruz said.
Like what president has ever publicly supported these methods? It was secret for a reason.
Nobody but you is even having that conversation. Would I ever do anything I believed to be wrong to save my children? Of course I would. It would still be wrong. This thread isn’t about what Hugh would do though. It’s apparently about whether or not Ted Cruz betrayed conservatives by knowing the difference.
If my understanding is correct, then this entire uproar of our so-called torture is idiotic and self-destructive, and Di Fi is a despicable, self-important, sanctimonious fool and a traittor fcr what she has done.
It’s my understanding that only three, THREE, high ranking terrorists were actually subjected to this enhanced interrogation. KSM and a couple others who were invovled in the planning and implementation of 9/11.
Any method that would have obtained valuable intelligence from those three was entirely justified. And this should have taken place and nothing about it ever heard about or discussed outside the CIA and our highest officials.
This is a type of war and war is a horrible enterprise and much that happens should remain unknown to the public.
