Texas Senator Ted Cruz is reminding Americans that no civilized nation should ever torture prisoners.
Torture is wrong, unambiguously. Period. The end. Civilized nations do not engage in torture and Congress has rightly acted to make absolutely clear that the United States will not engage in torture, Cruz said during the Q-and-A portion of a speech at the Heritage Foundation.

BINGO !!!
“I find it amusing how some here pounce on Senator Cruz, probably the last Politician we have who cares what is happening to our Country, without having any idea exactly what the Senator meant by his comment.”
It’s because the conservative movement is full of feckless hotheads that think that how we talk on message boards or talk radio is how you conduct yourself as an elected official. And if you dont, then that means you are a sell-out or a turncoat.
That’s why most of the people here talk a good game, but you wont see most of them running for anything. They dont know where FR ends and the outside world starts.
Going out there saying “Yer darn right I support torture”, will only make a person look like an idiot.
” So you would let your loved one be sacrificed so you could be right?
Just....wow. “
Would you negotiate or pay ransom to a terrorist?
Guess what? We don’t as a matter of national policy. And when Obama did, we pitched a fit.
Not at all. Torturing my loved ones would be wrong. Ethics are not situational. There are other options available and, as mentioned previously by another FReeper, if your response to being attacked is strong enough, the situation can be avoided in most cases.
If the media whores would release the locked away 911 photos of the smashed corpses on the sidewalks at ground zero NOBODY would be saying torture was bad in this instance.
I dunno.
I have witnessed personally and close up, the horror of sinus cavities filled with water, the accompanying snorts and gurgles, the gasping for air, blueish oxygen starved flesh, choking, coughing...
I was even in a position of authority as to whether to let it continue, or not.
My five year old boy made my decision easier when he begged me to let him continue bobbing for apples until he was successful.
So. I guess you're right.
Sorry. What the CIA did to these camel jockey wussies IS NOT “torture”. Getting your head removed from your shoulders by a raghead with a dull knife, NOW THAT’S TORTURE.
“Making that remark is a mistake. Cruz does not have to say anything. It looks like pandering.
If he is running for Prez, he needs to be very careful before he jumpz on the media dem bandwagon regarding a totally partisan report.”
Totally agree.
straw argument...he didn’t need to say he supported torture OR make the comments he made. false choice...
I might have mis-read your previous post. I took it as you saying you personally would not torture some dirtbag, (a puke that you had in your control who’s buddies were holding your family members hostage), to get info on your loved ones location so you could save them.
There is no error in what he said.
There is a point why this stuff was SECRET. Torture is not a policy of any nation to brag openly about, even with cutesy language borrowed from Rush. there are treaty convention out the wazoo dealing with this we are supposed to abide by in public, even if we fudge it behind closed doors.
We lose major moral high ground when these methods become part of the official public record, and seriously endangers are standing on the world stage with friends and foes.
No sane president, or elected official should be openly justifying it, even if they totally agree with shoving hot pokers up people’s rears.
Now that it is out in the public record, we will have to walk it back aggressively whether people here like it or not.
I'm a big fan - to the point of having made/spammed a prospective bumper sticker for a '16 run on here for months - but on this issue you're either just plain wrong or being purposely obtuse, imho.
If it would have prevented 9/11, I'd have waterboarded (etc) a thousand of the evil savages with a clear conscience.
Beware the slippery slope of PC appeasement, lest the low viscosity of its rationalization impel an incremental slide into GOPussy irrelevance.
In contraposition to Voltaire: a perfunctory 'good' is often the enemy of the best.
It may not be much in the world of bumper stickers, but I sure hope not to have cause to regret it . . .
It’s an interesting hypothetical and my honest answer is that I don’t know what I would do. As a matter of national policy, I believe Ted nailed it; without agreeing with the contents of the report or the dem definitions of torture.
Depends on the definition of torture. Enhanced interrogation techniques are not torture.
Well that's just not right.
I guess the question is, Is waterboarding torture?
Seriously
“Actually the the Japs would commit Hara Kari so very few actually surrendered.”
This is very true. But I still remember reading about the ‘prisoners to the rear’ trick.
Hahaha
