WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Congressional negotiators resolved policy disputes to reach a deal for a $1.1 trillion spending bill on Tuesday but still expected to need a stop-gap extension to avoid a U.S. government shutdown at midnight on Thursday.
House of Representatives Republicans were preparing to pass a short-term funding extension of one to two days to allow the Senate more time to clear procedural hurdles that could drag final passage past the deadline.
The snags added some drama to a spending bill that appeared to be cruising toward passage, despite demands from conservative Republicans to withhold spending from President Barack Obama's immigration order, which would allow millions of undocumented immigrants to stay and work in the United States.
Final hurdles on the massive bill were cleared when some controversial financial services provisions were removed to be dealt with separately.

The only “work” I want to see Congress doing — is to systematically dismantle the numerous extra-Constitutional Federal bureaucracies.

Why is the current HoR and Senate - many members of which were sent packing - getting ANY vote on spending which happens after January? This is a very bad decision.

Heck, if he’s a Republican he’s probably going to vote against it anyway.
But in January he’ll vote for the person who caused this to be passed Boehner- for Speaker. Berate, thraten and punish him for that if you want to do something useful.
A second party or a second American Revolution.
All of the pressing issues can be addressed in the next two years from a position of congressional strength. Holding our breath until we turn blue will not change anything.
Only the ones that depend on Boehner's good graces to get the plum they wish for, which is all of them.
Pretty much the same excuse I have heard since the Republican gained the House after FDR finally gave up the ghost. Remember that when we had both houses and the presidency we quickly lost all three because we did nothing but increase the debt.
While I appreciate your input, my focus is on the immigration issue right now. My feel on Obamacare is that I think the Supremes will rule in favour of the states next year on the one big issue. Further, I think the congress needs to slowly pick away at it bit by bit until the massive law really starts to unravel and there is no choice but to try and fix it and thus reduce the cost burden to the tax payer.
The other major issue for me that will not be solved for sometime is the debt and deficit of the federal government. I believe that this issue will not be solved with the “One” in the WH. The GOP fiscal conservatives always seems to lose this battle federally as their messaging just does not seem to resonate with a society that likes “free stuff”. The GOP has to overcome the message from the other side that has convinced people that reductions in the annual increased spending on programs are somehow considered cuts. Once that messaging is figured out, like Scott Walker did in Wisconsin, I think you might have a chance to reduce the debt. But, I don’t think you can pull it off right now without taking a major political hit.

If there is no Obamacare, there is no need for the funds. I have concluded that the consensus is that the current case before the SCOTUS will render the law untenable and it will die
Until that decision is handed down, there is no reason to create unnecessary political turmoil.

Well, maybe, just possibly, this could be the exception. At least we have the majority to see if they take the chance.
