California quake (Barbara Boxer retirement announcement expected soon)
Politico ^ | December 8, 2014 | Alex Isenstadt

Posted on 12/09/2014 3:35:40 PM PST by Clintonfatigued

A parade of ambitious California public figures, who’ve spent years itching for a shot at the state’s top political offices, are anticipating a shake-up of the state’s political hierarchy that could begin in a matter of weeks with the possible retirement of Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer. And some big names — including the mayor of Los Angeles — are already sizing up possible bids to succeed her.

Sources close to Boxer, 74, say the outspoken liberal senator will decide over the holidays whether to seek reelection in 2016 and will announce her plans shortly after the new year. Few of her friends believe she will run for a fifth term. Boxer has stopped raising money and is not taking steps to assemble a campaign. With Republicans taking over the Senate, she is about to relinquish her chairmanship of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

.

. If she were to step aside, it would be the first big crack in the state’s upper political ranks in years. The last time the governorship was open was in 2010, when Jerry Brown, now 76, romped in a return to the job he first held more than three decades earlier. Boxer and California’s other senator, Democrat Dianne Feinstein, 81, were elected in 1992.

For a backlog of up-and-coming pols, their opportunity may finally be arriving — and it will be very hard to to pass up.

either that or get one conservative “democrat” and get him into 2nd place behind the liberal. if the first strategy becomes an impossibility.

The problem is that it is a chess game where each piece decides how to move itself. There are no sacrifices in such a game. Sacrifice a pawn to win a rook? No, says the pawn.

You forgot to mention Pete Wilson beating Jerry Brown in 1982, but Pete wasn’t too “conservative” either.

I was referring to Boxer’s seat, not Feinstein’s.

I know Santorum and his fans are immensely pleased with this exercise but really, in the end, what did he accomplish? I'm sure he changed not a single mind in the Senate, and highly doubt he changed the mind of any of the few voters who have read or heard it. Making Boxer look stupid is as hard as falling off a log but won't convince any abortionista to alter his/her views.

“Our best hope is a badly divided rat field that allows the exactly 2 Republicans who run to place first and second.”
________________

That’s exactly right. We need two—not less and not more—Republicans to riun in the jungle primary; the RATs won’t be able to keep four or five liberals from running, and if they’re all reasonably well known they should get around 15% each (give or take a couple of points) and permit two Republicans to finish 1-2 with 18%-20% each. That’s how the GOP won the CA-31 in 2012, in a district not that much less Democrat than the state as a whole. And had a third Republican not run in 2014 in CA-31 the GOP would have placed both candidates in the general election once again: the Republican spoiler got 3.4%, and had his votes been split among theother two Republican candidate in the same proportion as such candidates got overall, the Republican who finished third with 16.5% (Gooch)!would have gotten 17.8% and beaten out Democrat Aguilar (who got 17.4%) for second place (Republican Paul Chabot finished first with 26.8%, and would have gotten around 28.9% had the third Republican not run).

The hard part is convincing two decent candidates to run for the Senate and not campaign against each other in the primary, and to discourage additional Republicans from running.

She’ll be one of many Democrats that can’t deal with the los of power and not being in control.

She is a nasty, mean old red-diaper lady, wrong about virtually every political issue she touches. Bye.

I wonder, though—California has a way or doubling down with even worse public servants. So I wouldn’t expect much of her successor.

Because Republicans wrote off any challenge to the office twenty years ago when this hack could have more easily lost. They wanted to throw money elsewhere and basically lost California.

Yes Ma’am, and don’t let it hit you on the way out.

What was Al Bundys Club that ha MA’AM in it?

Few years ago I was a contract driver for a company out of CA with offices throughout the country.
I got a call in DC and I normally didn’t go to DC(go figure) but it was a RUSH job to Philadelphia so I took it. Got to DNC and passed through ‘Security’ to get in. Had a Ball Cap on with USS.......(.....) on it and this little ‘perfect’ woman...you know, if she had a mortarboard cap on you could set your drink or cup of coffee on top of it.
Anyhoo, she approaches me and asks if I am the Courier and I said yes and SHE checked my ID and said the package wasn’t ready. I told her it was 202 and I had been there 5 minutes for a 200 pickup and the meter starts at 215. (They don’t/didn’t care NOT their money). She looks at my hat, turns her head, and keeps looking at it and said ‘Do you go to that HS or College’... I looked at her ans said “Yes, I guess you could say I did some studying there”. “What state?” I said must be the state of confusion. She shook her head and I said “Are you not Senator Barbara Boxer from CA”. “OF course I am” “Did you ever hear of San Diego, Long Beach or San Francisco?” the DUMB look continued and I said “They are Navy towns USS stands for United States Ship” she just shook her head and said, well you don’t have to tell me or something along that line (A LONG TIME AGO) anyway 215 comes around and I told them I was Leaving and they would get charged with an attempt. “Luckily, since I am going to Philly I don’t have anything left so I will wait and you will get charged waiting time -back to 2PM..HOWEVER, as a condition for my waiting PBS comes off that Radio and if Rush Limbaugh is not on the station in a minute or so, I am exercising my option to leave.”
While she was sputtering - I think she was going to tell them to send another driver, the package showed up and I left.
I wish I had know she had a problem with MA’AM as that definitely would have been every other word out of my mouth.

I also used to go to Quantico few times a week and pick up parts for Marine 1 or whatever chopper they had.. I often wondered if the powers that be ever knew the ‘strong disliking’ I had for B Clinton, if they would have allowed me within 50 feet of the facility or plane....

Great, Boxer retires and Antonio Villaraigosa takes over.

How does that possibly make things better?

It doesn’t matter which Democrat holds CA office; they all agree and are wrong all the time.

One should be specific when making such pronouncements. The ants that were studied must be red.

The study of black ants would be racist

I know it makes some feel better to suggest this is all somehow isolate to CA....Simply is not true. All levels of government has been subverted coast to coast...

Nothing is going to save your government...It was allowed to become to big, too controlling, ever expanding, entrenched and corrupted...

You can vote till your blue in the face, you’re now outnumber, voting in a an undermined and compromised corrupt electoral process.
