Republicans are split over whether to change the Senates rules to allow filibusters on executive and judicial nominations.
As they head into a conference meeting on Tuesday, some Republicans say its time to undo a wrong committed by Democratic Leader Harry Reid and go back to rules that require 60 votes to clear most nominees.
I think its rank hypocrisy if we dont, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said when asked about reversing the rule change.
If we dont, then disregard every bit of complaint that we made, not only after they did it but also during the campaign, he added. Im stunned that some people want to keep it.

Don’t wag your finger too hard at them. Many people on FR want to keep it too for some reason.
Sit down and shut up, McStain. You're a has-been and need to go retire somewhere in a desert.
Shut the hell up mclame, you worthless POS. Wish the NV had kept your sorry ass in a dark hole.
They've got to go.
...and Karma is a B!tch!!!
I think its rank hypocrisy if we dont, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said when asked about reversing the rule change.”
John McCain’s got some nerve opening his mouth! He never formed a Gang of 14 to stop Reid and Obama! Only Bush and Frist!
For his goal at the time (and now) was to ALWAYS make it difficult to get conservatives on the bench, while clearing away all obstacles to his buddies the democrats.
Well, here’s an alternative. Make it a “tactical nuclear”, i.e., low-yield nuclear option. Increase it from a simple majority (Reid nuclear option) to something less than the previous 60 votes. What should the number be? Well, how many seats do we control now, something like 54? Okay, that sounds like a good number, make it 54. And make it clear to any who might waver on important votes that their fate may be the same as the ‘Rats in 2014 if they decide to “reach out across the aisle”. The voters didn’t choose to send them there to do that.
You always want to keep such things for future dates when you are no longer in charge.
However, since the Dems have proven that they are willing to chuck it at the drop of a hat, the whole argument has become moot.
Change it back to 60, and if a Republican wins in 2016 change it to 51 just like Reid did.
So is this show of principle going to persuade the Democrats to keep it at 60 if/when they win the Senate back? Or is the GOP simply going to handicap itself to block conservative legislation and permit liberal legislation to pass year after year after year? The “stupid party” indeed.
I think they should wait until the new members are sworn in to make any new decisions. ..and to vote for Majority Leader.
You're right.
exactly-
Mclame- has shown his true allegiance- to the
Demon party!
Hey how about- we change it back to 60 votes if:
BOTH DINGY HARRY and MCLAME - RESIGN and leave
THIS COUNTRY!
Once again when you open the link, there are the bobsy twins, McCain and Graham. Are they ever apart?
To immediately reverse Harry Reid’s rule change is unconditional surrender to the Dim tyranny.
The thing to do is let the Dims know that the Republicans will continue the rule for the same period of time that the Dims employed it, then return to the usual 60 vote rule.
That way, the Dims will know if they try it in the future, they will be on the short end of that maneuver when they lose the Senate again. To do otherwise will only invite the continued Republican battered spouse syndrome where the Dims beat them with brass knuckles and the Republicans respond with a plastic spatula.
Without reading the article, of course McCain would like to reverse it. Retire already
What idiot doesn’t think it would come in handy when we vote on repealing obamacare?
This really is a no brainer.
1. Reinstate the filibuster for presidential appointments so any 40 Republicans can block any of Obama’s far left wing appointments.Remember that Obama’s judicial appointments will be legislating from the bench for the next 30 years.
2. Unilaterally abolish the filibuster for legislation so the Democrats cannot block anything from passing Congress. Then immediately start passing legislation that is popular with the public but that the hard core Democrat base hates. Make Obama spend the next 2 years vetoing popular legislation.
Don’t worry about it coming back to haunt Republicans someday when the Democrats retake control of the Senate. That was the argument against using the nuclear option when Democrats were blocking Bush’s judicial appointments.
Harry Reid has proven that Democrats will do whatever they want when they are in control regardless of what the Republicans do or do not do to them.
Democrats made the first nuclear strike. The correct response is to nuke them out of existence.
