"My generation of boys is f****d," says Rupert, a young German video game enthusiast I've been getting to know over the past few months. "Marriage is dead. Divorce means you're screwed for life. Women have given up on monogamy, which makes them uninteresting to us for any serious relationship or raising a family. That's just the way it is. Even if we take the risk, chances are the kids won't be ours. In France, we even have to pay for the kids a wife has through adulterous affairs. "In school, boys are screwed over time and again. Schools are engineered for women. In the US, they force-feed boys Ritalin like Skittles to shut them up. And while girls are favoured to fulfil quotas, men are slipping into distant second place.
Not buying it. Simple reform of lawful immigration would solve that problem. You don’t get soldiers & healthy workers by legalizing criminals & the sick.
“church singles” seems more about keeping potential donors close.
I think you are letting the world define who you are.
“As holier? Quote even a single verse that says this.”
“1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.”
1 Corinthians 7:1-2
“32 But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.”
1 Corinthians 7:32-33
Also, this chapter pretty much negates your claims that I should get married even if I don’t feel it necessary:
“27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;
30 And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;
31 And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.”
1 Cor 7:27-31
According to Paul’s wisdom, it seems you are the one thinking in a wordly manner, telling me that I need marry, when marriage is a thing of the flesh that is already passing away now that Christ has come.
Well, why do you lie about what I say?
If you can stop lying, then we can have further meaningful discussion.
You are strawmanning me, putting things in my mouth I never said.
Paul has simply pointed out advantages that inhere to a single state, as well as telling the married please do have all the sex you like because otherwise you’ll be tempted worse to cheat.
You use an interesting word, “FEEL.” Muse on that, carefully.
Do you act as if you have not bouqht anythinq, or do you act as if you own what you have bouqht?
That is an interesting challenge. Can we hold what we have loosely, being ready to yield it back to God as soon as He needs it for some other purpose?
My 28 year son would agree wholeheartedly.
“Well, why do you lie about what I say?”
How am I lying? You started off telling me that I am commanded by God to be fruitful and multiply. That was your argument, I didn’t invent it!
Also, Paul expects us to take context into consideration.
A believer married to an unbeliever (quite possible when one of an unbelieving couple comes to the Lord) will in fact be faced with a “things of the world” choice.
World generally means the unsaved, unredeemed portion of humanity in New Testament parlance. I hesitate for excellent theological reason to apply it to Christendom.
I have no idea what the context is of your question, so I don’t know how to answer it.
It is very simple. It is still a search through rejects to find “the one”. That one future Mrs Right is always there. She is just in a crowd of Ms. Totally unacceptable.
Rush said it best: Feminism is about giving ugly women access to men. Beauty is only skin deep, ugly goes to the bone. Present day candidate women do not understand exterior beauty is not the end all be all. A beautiful mind can not be bought. A beautiful body can be made.
(see the old joke: A woman searched the world for her Mr. Perfect. One day she found him and they have a very perfect conversation, but after a while he had to excuse himself because he had to continue his quest to find his Miss Perfect.)
I’ve been married to the same woman for 41 years last September.
It’s easy. No affairs, for either party, and let her run the finances. :)
It is a team task. If you cannot do it personally because God does not furnish the circumstances, you can at least stop trying to torpedo and poison the rest of Christendom with excuses. It’s not about you, Boogie. It’s about God.
Do you not understand Paul’s statement that those who are married now will soon be the same those who aren’t married, or never married? That this is passing away?
There will be no marriage in heaven. We are to look forward to that state, as that is our permanent one. This is a temporary condition we are in now, being alive in the world, and marriage is a thing that exists only in this world. Whether you marry or not, it is only for a season, and then it will be gone. So it is very much a worldly concern.
kinda like goin' Galt.
Yes, that is a possible theological rejoinder, taking worldly as synonymous with earthly.
Still, this is only to point out an advantage of singlehood. Please note that if everybody did this then the bible itself would be a lie... humanity would die out.
Marriage has never had a legal “love test”
The courts have now defined marriage as people who engage in the same recreational sex acts. Marriage, per the courts, is just about the sex act. Children, per the ABA model law project, are just an incidental accessory of heterosexual sex NOT resulting in an abortion.
Is the “G” broken on your keyboard, Butters?
Or as something larger which has to include people who engage in... stuff.
The government has come up with a welter of confusion here.
