A Phoenix police officer shot to death an unarmed black man during a struggle and authorities said the officer believed the individual had a gun, in the latest fatal incident amid national turmoil over the policing of black communities.

The Phoenix Police Department said Rumain Brisbon, 34, was sitting in a black Cadillac SUV outside a convenience store on Tuesday evening, and that two witnesses told the officer the occupants of the vehicle were selling drugs.

With police forces across the country under increased scrutiny over killings of unarmed black men, Phoenix police said in a statement that its officer called for backup, and then saw Brisbon appear to remove something from the car's back seat

no resisting arrest was!

why don't people like you GET IT!!?!?!

it doesn't matter if he was just J walking or pulling the tag off a mattress !! he a cop approaches you and you attack him... you have put yourself into a life and death struggle involving a deadly weapon (the officer is carrying a weapon) and if you were to win the fight, you could get ahold of his weapon and use it one him. Thus the officer has no choice but to use deadly force to stop you.

What happened BEFORE the fight doesn’t matter! The SECOND the man gets in a physical confrontation with the cop he has fortified his life.

Really? Apparently there is NO justified shooting these days. Or strangling either.

Well, we already have speech codes that say black people can say some things and white people cannot.

Might as well have a new set of laws as well.

The question is not whether that’s worth shooting someone over, because that’s not why he was shot. The question is if that’s worth running, fighting an officer and getting shot over, because the drug dealers actions led to his being shot.

Of course if he was already on parole or probation being violated could mean a lot more time than those simple penalties.

Troll. Unless the cop was shot at least twice, you would say it was not worth killing the perp. Go troll under water at the sewage plant.

The marijuana posession was a class 6 felony, punishable by 4 months to a year in jail. The oxy posession was a class 1 misdemeanor. And that was worth killing someone over?

He wasn't shot for having drugs. He was shot for leading the office to believe he had a weapon in his resisting arrest.

Apparently the criminal felt it was worth risking his life over the drugs.

Yep, like if a Black person/suspect tells a cop he's not going to comply with anything the cop says, the cop must retreat.

My question would be, was that worth the perp resisting over? The perp would have the benefit of knowing that grappling with the officer could result in his being shot (or, “shot dead”, as they say).

The perp (only) had the info about what drugs were in his possession, whether his gun was legal, etc. The LEO did not have any of that information, so should not be expected to draw conclusions about what charges would bring convictions and jail sentences, in following the procedures of his job.

Black people are a disproportionate part of the criminal element.

They need to deal with that aspect of their reality.

If a suspect wants to argue his case, the side of the road isn’t the place to do it.
