NYC Mayor on Garner Decision: ‘Centuries of Racism’ Brought Us to Today
Mediaite ^ | December 3, 2014 | Josh Feldman

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke today on the Eric Garner grand jury decision, bringing up the “black lives matter” refrain and saying people repeat it because, frankly, it just needs to be said more. De Blasio expressed his heartfelt sorrow for Garner’s family and how no family should have to go through what they did.

The mayor even made the case a little personal, talking about his own son Dante and how he worries about his safety every day. “This is now a national moment of grief,” he said. “A national moment of pain.” He even went so far as to say, “We are dealing with centuries of racism that have brought us to this day.”

De Blasio pledged police reform and crackdowns on officers “who don’t live up to the values of the uniform” and again called for peaceful, non-violent protest.

The mayor also relayed that the investigation by U.S. Attorney (and possible next Attorney General) Loretta Lynch will move forward.

Maybe the problem is 300 - 350 pound black men who fight policemen.

Policemen aren’t always right but they will always prevail in anything less than a spontaneous full scale mob uprising.

If you are guilty, fighting the police just makes things worse.

If you believe you are being wronged don’t fight it on the street.
You will lose every time.

Stay alive and fight back in a court of law.

From the interwebs:

Minutes after Bodden addressed the media, PBA President Pat Lynch showed up to defend the NYPD.  “You did not hear the private medical examiner say that they saw signs of asphyxiation. What they saw is compression to the neck, which is consistent with the medical treatment that Mr. Garner would have received by EMS, would have received in the emergency room at the hospital.”

Lynch said that the police followed proper protocol when trying to detain Garner.

“It’s a seat belt maneuver. It’s a take-down maneuver where a shorter police officer is trying to take down a taller man to the ground,” Lynch said. “You reach up, one arm is under the armpit, the other is around the shoulder, a struggle ensues while we are bringing him down to the ground, not a chokehold and it’s not consistent with a chokehold.”

From what I’ve seen of the video, negligent homicide MIGHT have been an option, BUT . . . if the guy doesn’t resist arrest, he’s still alive. (I confess I’m not quite sure what he was being arrested for.)

This mayor, Obama, Holder, and the media are stirring up the madness. This case wasn’t about race. Too many people are going nuts with their emotions and calling for the cop to be hurt on line in different places. If they destroy, I know who I am blaming.

“He does realize that he’s the mayor and controls that same police department, right? “

“What? I’m the mayor. Why I ought to do something? Someone get hold of me and get me to act. I shouldn’t tolerate this. What kind of heartless racist am I?”

especially when the man said he couldn’t breathe.

For the record...if you can SAY "I can't breathe", you can breathe.

Actually, he was exhaling remaining air in his lungs when he said I can’t breathe. You are not inhaling when words in a sentence are coming OUT of your mouth. Give it a try.

The first thing you ask a chocking person is “can you speak”? Why? Because, if they can’t, they’re truly chocking. Whether inhaling or exhaling, it matters not.
