A New York City grand jury has declined to indict an NYPD officer in the chokehold case of Eric Garner, the unarmed man who died while being arrested on Staten Island earlier this year.
In opting not to indict, the panel determined there was not probable cause that a crime was committed by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo, who was seen on a widely watched amateur video showing him wrapping his arm around Garner's neck as Garner yelled, "I can't breathe!" during the summer altercation.

Yeah, who needs that kind of talk? You are right.
This one is “iffy”...I think totally dif from Ferguson. The guy wasn’t a threat, just selling illegal cigarettes. Jumped by white cop (there’s the raciest angle), who used a choke hold (clearly visible in video) which is illegal by the cops own handbook. I don’t think it was 1st or 2nd degree himicide, but this was dangerous excessive force, should have been a charge of some kind. I think NYC has a problem...will be fun watching DeBlasio deal with this one.
Wow, that’s almost like he attacked one of the cops.
Resisting sounds so brutal...Until ya watch the video.
I hope those 5 cops that jumped on him for resisting are all OK.
Garner was ready to die anyway becasue he was fat, and besides, he had stuff in his past...So this is no biggy.
Some FReepers on this thread need to be aware that no chokehold was used. The officer used a headlock which is a control or restraint hold and is legal. A chokehold cuts off air at the trachea or blood flow at the carotids.
“1. Why should selling untaxed cigarettes be illegal?”
“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers — and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system.”

Sure, the suspect killed himself...
The cops did nothing...
Government IS control, ultimately by threat of lethal force.
Any time we either prohibit or mandate some activity, we are threatening to kill anyone who disobeys and does not submit to a lesser penalty specified in the law.
The law, apparently, mandated paying a tax on the sale of cigarettes. This guy disobeyed the law, refused to submit to whatever penalty was specified in the tax law, and was killed. This sequence of events is a possibility with any law ... those who propose laws shouldn't forget it.
“normally, I would say that his record should come in to play but this guy was selling single cigarettes on the street. Confiscate, give him a ticket and move on. His crime was not worth the attention it received from the police.”
Not to a few FReepers. Some on this forum believe that smokers SHOULD be put to death!
Absolutely....
Look it’s A-OK for cops to stand and gawk as tens of millions enter our country illegally creating total coast to coast criminal chaos, but don’t be doing anything violent and serious like selling single cigs on a NY street.
Otherwise, you’ll have an entire crowd of cops there ready to cage you....
Obey, do not resist.
Hannity is a crisply explaining it quite well at the moment.
Oh boy. When’s the rioting going to begin in NYC?
Good point. Yanks and Mets weren’t much better
The accusation is "loose and untaxed cigarettes"
Lets put this into perspective. Eric Garner was basically an innocent street hustler selling individual cigarettes to the "street people" who can't afford individual packs, let alone cartons.
While the powers that be claim they were "untaxed", the reality is that Garner likely purchased (there is no evidence to dispute that fact) the already taxed cigarettes locally and was selling them individually on the street.......At a cost of what, maybe $.25, $.35, $.50 more than they would in a full pack?
If Garner were indeed a tax evading felon worthy of being taken down by the NYPD, he'd be selling cartons of cigarettes worth thousands of dollars illegally imported from other states out of a van in some back alley........
Are you high?
Do you have a law enforcement background? Merely viewing an excerpt from a tape doesn’t make you an expert on the matter.
“Any time we either prohibit or mandate some activity, we are threatening to kill anyone who disobeys and does not submit to a lesser penalty specified in the law.”
And that is precisely what they will be required to do to me regarding the Obamacare law. Luckily, I am in a position to take a few of them with me, so maybe a lesson will be learned and my granddaughter’s liberty will be restored...
Just watching the video would lead me to believe that there might be a better case against the NY policeman than against Darren Wilson. Of course the grand jury was privy to much more information.
So, the medical examiner was wrong when he concluded that Garner died as a result of compression of the neck?
