Several lawmakers took to the House floor Monday evening to make the Hands up, dont shoot, gesture to protest the police shooting of the unarmed Ferguson teen, Michael Brown.
Hands up, dont shoot. Its a rallying cry of people all across America who are fed up with police violence, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said as he took the floor. In community, after community, after community, fed up with police violence in Ferguson, in Brooklyn, in Cleveland, in Oakland, in cities and counties and rural communities all across America.
Jeffries added that people are fed up with injustice, a broken criminal justice system and continuing to see young, unarmed African-American men killed as a result of a gunshot fired by a law enforcement officer.
Now this is a problem that Congress cant run away from and the [Congressional Black Caucus] stands here today to make sure that Congress runs toward the problem, Jeffries said. That we come up with constructive solutions to breaking this cycle, this epidemic, this scourge of police violence all across America.
Joining Jeffries was Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.), Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) and Rep. Al Green (D-Texas), who praised the handful of St. Louis Rams players for also making the hands up gesture as they entered the field for their game Sunday night.
This has become the new symbol, a new statement, a statement wherein people around the country now, are calling to the attention of those who dont quite understand that this is a movement that will not dissipate it will not evaporate. It is a movement that is going to continue, Green said on the floor.
“Pants up, Don’t Loot” would be even better.
Take their names and hold each of them accountable for the way in which this act breached their oath of office by working to impeach, recall, and/or obstruct the legislative agenda of each one of the miscreants. never let the voters forget what these people have done wrong and repeat the complaint over and over again wherever they may go. In the metaphorical sense treat them as an enemy combatant who feigns surrender at the same time they attempt to use their pretended surrender to kill you by deceit and surprise.
Didnt used to be that way.
‘Used to be we were one nation under God with kids coming from two parent families made up of of a mother and father who had morals and were not depending on the government for handouts.
Police violence? No.
Black crime wave? Yes?
These cities should just become Police-Free zones. See how they like it after a few weeks.
Interesting comments following the article. Most side with Wilson.
Ferguson is about normalizing thuggery. There is far too much police brutality but this case is not part of the problem. It is part of the solution.
Ferguson and Zimmerman are about implementing WH ethics throughout society. It is Obama trickle down morality.
That sign is simply amazing.
Where did the rest of their riot go?
They aint doin it right!
I think that is a great idea!
Hands down, Brown is in the ground.
They’re fed up with police violence (generically), but Black Lives Don’t Matter, the tens of thousands of blacks murdered by other blacks are ignored. Who cares? They don’t advance the agenda of the Democrat Party, so they are unpersons.
Put your hands DOWN, Brown is in the ground.
Yeah.
Boy, you aint kidding.....
HE DIDN'T HAVE HIS HANDS UP YOU LYING *&#$^%# @*&#&#!
The Sergeant at Arms should have used that occasion to arrest them since they were in the act of surrendering.
Those whackjobs are on board with that manner of police brutality. The more the better. No question.
It is time for the movie Escape From New York to become a reality.
