Nine years ago Eaker & I were talking about what a wonderful person TexasCowboy was and what poopheads his children were. We both agreed that it would be a damn shame to let the memory of him lapse. Three or four times a year TexasCowboy would host shoots at various ranges across Texas. After everyone was finished shooting, he would then serve up a yummy lunch. It was while Eaker & I were talking that I came up with the (rare brilliant) idea of continuing what he started, but to do this in his memory. This is how the TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot was born.
2015 will mark the 10th Annual Memorial Shoot! I could not be more proud of how this event has blossomed throughout the years. The following phrase has been spoken at every shoot, except the first one, This is the best shoot weve had!.
Get ready to speak those words again . . .
The 10th Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot will be held June 6th, 2015 at Schwenkes Rifle Range in Aransas Pass. This is a private range, but I was once again able to sweet talk Mr. Schwenke to let us use his range (OK maybe it wasnt so much the sweet talk as it was he saw how much extra money he could make for the day). The cost is $15.00/adult. We have the 25 yard range reserved for us, but will be allowed to use the other ranges ~ as long as we blend in and are respectful to the members. The shoot will start at 10:00 am. Ill have waivers for everyone to sign, and will collect your fee with the waivers to turn in all at one time. This year we will not meet as a group for breakfast before heading to the range.
If cpdiii is able to make it to the shoot he will provide lunch, otherwise we will have BBQ catered in (which will cost about $8.00/person ~ havent priced that yet).
I have reserved a block of 15 cottages at Pelican Bay Resorts ~ http://www.pelicanbayresort.com/ ~ for June 4th 6th. To reserve a cottage call (Toll Free) 866-729-7177 or 361-729-7177, let them know you are with the TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot group. Our group will receive a discount on the price quoted on their website. The club house rents for $150.00 for four hours, I reserved Friday and Saturday nights ~ I cant remember the start times, but we have to be out of there by 10:00 pm both nights. The lady I spoke with said we could probably use the club house for free, depending on how many cottages we actually rent.
For those arriving Thursday night dinner will be at Captain Bennys ~ this is subject to change. The Friday night dinner is yet to be determined. Saturday night will be easy stuff ~ appetizers and chips & dip type stuff. There are a few months yet to figure all that out.
Everyone get your vacation requests in early. Really look forward to seeing everyone in June!
Blocked the calendar out for it already.
Explained to the better half where we were making plans to be for these dates.
Will load up the bus with the needed firearms and enough entertainment to send down the barrels.
Hope to see everyone there.
How’d you get that picture of my house? ;)
I’m sneaky like that. :)
I miss being there. I swore I wouldn’t miss them and then got in a situation where I can’t get there. Makes me cry every year knowing I’m missing the get-together with my “TexasCowboy” friends. Miss you all.
Sure hope you can make it sometime! We miss you, too! (((hugs)))
True story!
It IS a great range. Mind the livestock though.
But using the word "peaceful: in conjunction with this group kind of creates cognitive dissonance in my brain. :)
I think I'll be able to make it, pretty sure I can't afford a cabin, but the LQ in Corpus is pretty cheap. I was down that way in May for a state conference that my wife always attends, on Mustang Island. We ate one evening at the restaurant in Port Aransas, right by the "cut" where the ocean going ships come and go from the Gulf. Can't go along this year, as the person taking over for her next year, will be going... although some of the rooms in the place have 3 bedrooms, the one we stayed in only had 2, but one had two beds. I did a telephone interview while I was there. Also used the fitness center, and the pool, while my wife was in the meetings, so I didn't miss any workouts. :)
I hope all is well with you. So very sorry for your loss. (((hugs)))
Jim, thank you for the Christmas wishes and for all you do. Sorry about the late reply, but I just got out of the hospital from a nasty bronchial infection. (I thought I had the worst flu ever, but not flu - it was even worse than that.)
I hope that you and yours had a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
See you at the next TCMS, if my health holds up - and if I can afford it (probably not, lol).
FReepers rock!

I’m so sorry to hear about your loss, BuckeyeTexan. Prayers up for you and yours.
Dear Lord, please sustain and comfort BuckeyeTexan and her family through this time of need, keep them safe and ease their pain, in Jesus Christ’s name I pray. Amen.
What a beautiful Christmas card you posted. Thank you for including me in that ping. I hope you had a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Thanks for the ping. I’d really like to go to this one, but it may be out of reach for me due to distance and finances.
I really enjoyed the last one and hate to miss any of them. I like the shooting, but the company of FReepers is really outstanding. FReepers are the best!
Hi, there! I thought it was in the spirit of the group...and I’m glad you are part of the ping list!
I hope yours is a very good year, too! We need one! :)
Question...
Who was it that had their daughter make up those “Occupy the Gun Range” magnets bumper stickers???
IIRC, they said the had a print shop somewhere...
I just do not remember right off the top of my head...
I do believe that is alfa6. IIRC, the print shop in in Kansas.
Gracias...

And you would be mostly right, daughter lives in Kansas but the shop is just over the border in North Kansas City, MO.
Close enough, eh!!!
Regards
alfa6 ;>}
Just because it is almost the end of January ping . . .
