FERGUSON, Mo. The mayor of Ferguson, Missouri, says police Officer Darren Wilson will not receive a severance package as part of his resignation from the police force. Mayor James Knowles said Sunday that the St. Louis suburb and Wilson have severed their ties and that Wilson won't receive any further pay or benefits following his resignation Saturday. Wilson's lawyer says Wilson resigned because threats had been made against other officers and the department because of his continued employment. A grand jury on Monday decided not to indict Wilson for killing 18-year-old Michael Brown during an August confrontation, sparking widespread demonstrations.

So, would the Ferguson government have been happier had he allowed himself to be killed in the line of duty? I'm not saying that. Just saying that I doubt that the Ferguson authorities are sorry he's gone.

I thought Zimmerman tried that and it was thrown out?

I’m not disagreeing, but it was still the honorable, selfless thing to do.

Well if he’d been offed by the Gentle Giant, there would not have been this rioting.

This is a bad message to fellow police officers—do your job, get smeared and run out of town. The city should refuse his resignation, else give him a severance. How many others will now leave after seeing the poor treatment of Officer Wilson?

The dead one was a robbery suspect who tried to take the officers gun then charged him and properly ended up dead...."Hands down, Brown is in the ground.

I agree with you. That’s why he resigned.
He could have stuck around and made things very difficult for the city. Seems kinda chicken-youknowwhat not to provide a severance.

Even an office job would be more humane.
But by this point he surely does not lack for sympathizers who will help with whatever he needs within reason, and maybe beyond reason too.
If, not when, his book is written, that will be a smash seller.

So he gets death threats and gets to leave his job. He has been sacrificed on the altar of political correctness.

I dont think we will ever know the full truth here, because we wont know what discussions happened behind closed doors. It may have been a resignation, or it may have been an agreement for him to resign.Whatever it was, I would hope that Wilson had a good lawyer sitting beside him all the way to offer good counsel.

He would have a bullseye on his back, too many gangbangers trying to gain street creds. He will have to watch his back the rest ot his life. Got to wonder if some places should just be walled off, let the mob have them long enough for the damned fools to realize that they really need the cops just to survive.

You don't get severance when you quit, no matter what the circumstances. I have no problem with it. Darren has much bigger things to worry about.

He would have a bullseye on his back, too many gangbangers trying to gain street creds. There was no way Wilson was ever going to return to duty in Ferguson and he knew it. I understand he's going back to school and pursue a new career. Hope he's successful at it.
To: HiTech RedNeck
'Well if hed been offed by the Gentle Giant, there would not have been this rioting" Nope, no rioting. No one would have heard about it, PERIOD!! If the beast killed Wilson, NBC, CNN, ABC, etc. wouldn't have given the story one split second of airtime.
To: E. Pluribus Unum
It makes a difference how and why... if it is quitting as a negotiated offer to not sue you can get one.
And maybe he refused to leave the option of suing behind.
