6:25 a.m. update: A gunman targeted at least three buildings in downtown Austin the Mexican consulate, the federal courthouse and Austin police headquarters early Friday morning before being shot and killed by Austin police, authorities said.
Assistant Chief Raul Munguia told reporters that the suspected shooter was killed near his vehicle. The suspect was found wearing a vest of some type, Munguia said, and that the suspects vehicle may contain an improvised explosive device. The police bomb squad has been dispatched to secure the vest and the white SUV the suspect was using.
Munguia said police are also searching the suspects Austin residence to make sure there are no explosives there. The identity of the suspect has not been released. Interstate 35 remains closed in both directions south of 15th Street and north of Riverside Drive as police continue to investigate the shootings.

Anybody want to take bets on him being, or being portrayed as, a right-wing nut? Some kind of nativist bigot? Based on his shooting the Mexican Consulate building.
He couldn’t get what he wanted in some store and had a fit of rage, I guess.
What really set them off was him shooting the Mexican Consulate Building. Now, that means he needed killin’.
What if he is Mexican? Wonder if they will try to sweep it under the rug.

I never bet against a sure thing.
I do not consider mexico a friendly nation, FWIW.
Juan Williams said the other day that the police shouldn’t kill anyone. Way to go, Juan! (sarcasm)
“He couldnt get what he wanted in some store and had a fit of rage, I guess.”
Yep, he lost a fight for one of the $5 Barbie dolls.
Gonna be a long day for some and with IH-35 shut down it will be havoc in the roadway system.
And they are apparently still processing the scene.
Austin Police Department Assistant Chief Raul Munguia told reporters that a 911 call reported
shots being fired at 2:22 a.m. local time (3:22 a.m. ET). An officer outside the force’s
headquarters then spotted the suspect fire a gun.
Munguia said suspect was in a vehicle but when officers approached they “noticed what
appeared to be an improvised explosive device” inside. They dragged the suspect away from
vehicle for his safety but noticed he was wearing “some kind of vest” and “backed away
from the suspect” before creating a security perimeter around the scene.
By 6 a.m. local time (7 a.m. ET) officers had still not been able to get near the suspect.

Reports are he was shouting “Kill White Cops!” Not sure yet....
Wearing some kind of vest???? I have some vests, my husband has two. We have never secured them at all. Some of mine have buttons, one has a frog. Hubby’s new years vest has a chain. They are all some kind of vest. Pretty scary! Perhaps this guy’s vest looked bomb like.

What would get interesting is the Ferguson protestors deciding who to shoot - do they apply a color test to deciding when a Hispanic is a white to shoot or non-white to spare?
Authorities have not offered a motive, but the police chief said that the shooter’s “violent anti-government behavior” — as evidenced by attacking buildings that belong to Mexico’s government, the U.S. government and, in the police headquarters, the city government — may have come from ongoing and often vitriolic debates in society.

The police chief is an idiot lib.
Antigovernment makes sense to me. Though that federal courthouse is imposing as hell. Like it was designed to be as intimidating as it could.
What other motives could cause someone to want to shoot up those buildings?
