Parsing had nothing to do with it. Susan was not interested in Bill’s marriage vows. She was interested in her mission — which was getting her client elected. Adultery after a successful campaign was relatively unimportant, as they both understood. She was telling her motivated client to be disciplined, as consultants routinely do.

Politics isn’t principles to these people; it’s process, and both understood they wanted one that would be well-executed.
