The parents of the late Michael Brown Jr., Michael Brown Sr. and Lesley McSpadden, released a calming and powerful statement on Monday night in the wake of a grand jury decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of that unarmed teenager over the summer.
While we understand that many others share our pain, we ask that you channel your frustration in ways that will make a positive change. We need to work together to fix the system that allowed this to happen, the statement read. We respectfully ask that you please keep your protests peaceful. Answering violence with violence is not the appropriate reaction.
The Brown familys comments were so measured that they were cited by President Barack Obama when he took to the podium in the White House on Monday night ahead of riots which were soon to spiral out of control.
The spirit of that statement was not, however, matched by the Brown familys actions.
McSpadden, inconsolable with grief in the wake of the grand jurys decision, appeared before a crowd in Ferguson alongside her husband, Louis Head. While consoling his grieving wife, Head (beginning about 1:30 and exploding at the 3:10 mark) determined that the best way to address what he perceived to be injustice was to Burn this s*** down! Burn this b**** down! (Language Warning):
TALKING HEADS
“Burning Down The House”
Watch out you might get what you’re after
Cool babies strange but not a stranger
I’m an ordinary guy
Burning down the house
Hold tight wait till the party’s over
Hold tight We’re in for nasty weather
There has got to be a way
Burning down the house
Here’s your ticket pack your bag: time for jumpin’ overboard
The transportation is here
Close enough but not too far, Maybe you know where you are
Fightin’ fire with fire
All wet hey you might need a raincoat
Shakedown dreams walking in broad daylight
Three hun-dred six-ty five de-grees
Burning down the house
It was once upon a place sometimes I listen to myself
Gonna come in first place
People on their way to work baby what did you except
Gonna burst into flame
My house S’out of the ordinary
That’s might Don’t want to hurt nobody
Some things sure can sweep me off my feet
Burning down the house
No visible means of support and you have not seen nuthin’ yet
Everything’s stuck together
I don’t know what you expect starring into the TV set
Fighting fire with fire
How come Ma and Pa Brown weren’t telling their little cop-hating bastard this before he got turned into bug food?
Everyone caught rioting/looting/burning should be zip-tied to a whipping post and beaten bloody.
Key word: released.
That's not quite the same as actually composing/articulating it themselves. I've got a Brooklyn Bridge for sale to anybody who believes that they actually had anything to do with the creation of this powerful statement...
Michael Brown’s mother should apologize for her sons behavior that day and admit his actions were responsible for his death.
Congrats, you’re son wasn’t going to amount to anything and now he is famous, a regular MLK. A cause, an angel, a gentle giant.
I suspect there are at least a couple generations of “I hate authority” behind Mr. ‘gentle giant’ Brown.
You don’t get like that overnight.
It’s endemic in the element that WILL NOT assimilate and then blames the rest of the world when that doesn’t work out for them.
Maybe what we are seeing is that minorities in the US have in fact reached the gag point on a life of irresponsible idleness and worthless freebies. Now they’re demonstrating what that cradle-to-grave, government instituted indolence does to the human spirit.
It is inevitable... and I wonder how a divided America can finally get serious about how unfair this is to all concerned.
Herman’s Hermits need to record a new version...
“Mrs. Brown you’ve got a hoodlum son.....”
If she would do that it would bring about a large step forward, but then they would probably turn on her.
1. Michael Brown is still dead
2. Darren Wilson's law enforcement career is over
3. Ferguson is a burnt-out symbol of black criminality and stupid self-destruction.
Nice work, Obola, Holder, Jackson and Sharpton. As usual, when you are involved, everybody loses.
“Its endemic in the element that WILL NOT assimilate and then blames the rest of the world when that doesnt work out for them.”
The above and the rest of the post defines the situation so well that I urge anyone to read it carefully.
And children, that’s how a food desert is created!

The real casualty in this whole situation is personal responsibility.

Louis Head, an ex-con who is married to Browns mother, Lesley McSpadden, was with McSpadden outside the Ferguson Police Department headquarters Monday evening as prosecutor Robert McCulloch disclosed that a grand jury declined to vote an indictment against Officer Darren Wilson in the August 9 shooting.
Fix what allowed this to happen???
How about not raising a thug Ms. Brown!
I think the Brown family realized with no indictment their chances of a big time lawsuit went up in flames like most of the town.
The "system" that allowed this to happen is the system of welfare, lousy public schools, fatherless families, and the acceptance of selfish, disrespectful thug behavior, all of which are on display in beautiful downtown Ferguson.
