Smoke billowed from burned-out buildings and sidewalks were strewn with broken glass Tuesday morning after Ferguson erupted over a grand jury's decision not to indict a white police officer in the killing of unarmed black 18-year-old Michael Brown.
Firefighters were dousing the blackened remains of some businesses and at least one was still ablaze. Some Ferguson stores that weren't burned had smashed display windows, but the streets of the St. Louis suburb were mostly clear.
Monday night's protests were far more destructive than any of those that followed Brown's Aug. 9 death, with more than a dozen businesses badly damaged or destroyed. Authorities reported hearing hundreds of gunshots, which for a time prevented fire crews from fighting the flames.

The last thing any govt official wants is armed honest people defending themselves from criminals. They might come after him next.
I don’t believe our business insurance covers riots. I would bet a lot of policies don’t.
I noticed that a parking lot full of cars was torched. Most insurance policies don’t cover that kind of destruction......................Now the ones who have jobs can’t get to work and still have to pay for a burned out car they don’t have......................
Is there a Walmart in Furgeson? There will be soon. Oh the humanity!
“MOST BUSINESSES DESTROYED IN FERGUSON MINORITY OWNED”
Those business owners got what they deserved because they were acting “white”.
Now is the time for the socialists and assorted leftists to spring into action. Encourage the formation of consumer-owned cooperatives, owned and operated by the people in Ferguson. Initial loans could come from the the pension funds of the SEIU, the various teacher and professor unions, and of course those banks and credit unions owned and operated by various labor organizations.
“Its simply part of doing business,....”
Yes, just another cost of doing business to add to the price consumers in Ferguson will pay for goods and services.
Since it is apparent that the police cannot provide business owners any security and protection of property from thieves and looters, the owners now have the choice of providing their own security at a cost. That cost will be passed on to the consumer through increased prices.
That is contingent on those businesses rebuilding and staying in Ferguson. Of course many will not return and rebuild. Either way, the cost of living in Ferguson just became more expensive for its people.
It looks like Mod-weenies removed your mission statement/platform... so I dunno who I would be voting for.
Most policies don’t cover this kind of stuff. Property and automobile insurance policies cover accidents, not intentional destruction, because you could set your car on fire and say it was done by the rioters....................
I hope nothing replaces the burned out businesses. The residents desire to live in a wasteland. We should not stifle their dreams.
Did anyone interview Ben Carson on this mess?
Democrats do that every election...........
From paid premiums.
It’s the price of doing business in an urban environment. That’s why people close shop and move away.
Civil unrest is excluded by insurance policies.
The businesses will never reopen. Everything they had went up in smoke - along with what was stolen.
Blacks are out of work but its not like they cared to keep the community afloat.
It was dying long before anyone ever heard of Michael Brown or Darren Wilson.
It is remarkable how much crime and indecency is caused in this nation by democrats and liberals.
I guess. :) Scratch another vote off......
That is what sane people will do. Sadly, there will be normal citizens left behind who will suffer. Kevin Jackson was on Hannity yesterday and described most of Ferguson as a nice, middle-class city that happened to be predominantly black. It seems that the worst of their citizens, along with professional agitators and a bloodthirsty media have combined to destroy all of that. The homeowners whose property values will plummet and the business owners who are faced with rebuilding (before Christmas) will not have their stories told.
If I was a business owner there, I would have left after the LAST set of riots/burnings.
Where they going to spend their Obama Bucks and Food Stamps ?
Actually, it’s included in a basic business insurance policy. It still is going to cost the owners some money, but they should be covered, if they carried insurance.
