WASHINGTON Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is stepping down under pressure, the first cabinet-level casualty of the collapse of President Obamas Democratic majority in the Senate and a beleaguered national security team that has struggled to stay ahead of an onslaught of global crises.
The president, who is expected to announce Mr. Hagels resignation in a Rose Garden appearance on Monday, made the decision to ask his defense secretary the sole Republican on his national security team to step down last Friday after a series of meetings over the past two weeks, senior administration officials said.

I suspect Obam thought, for these reasons, he could manipulate Hagel to his way of thinking, but Hagel’s always had his own way of viewing things.....any Republican is not going to fair well with Obama...well... apart from lapdog McCain.
Always.
Remember while Prez. Obola was on vacation at Martha’s Vineyard and Dempsey and Hagel brought ISIS to the forefront and then came the beheading? Prez. Obola was stripped naked for all to see. After that, his disapproval went down to hell, well almost. FYI, Hagel is a doofus. But his appointment is a reflection on Prez. Obola. Hagel accepting it is a reflection on him. I would have refused to work for this administration.
Open Borders Butch ?
Ha haaaaaaa! Yeah. It's hard to stay ahead of the onslaught when you work for the guy who is causing it.
Correct. He liked it that way.
Amen. And surprisingly that’s almost the way NBC Nightly News just characterized it. Obama and his White House came off, even on their sycophant network, as the equivalent to the LBJ WH during Vietnam as they told the Hagel story.
Lot of tap-dancing going on today. “He’s Mr. Wonderful, we love him, he served his office with honor and distinction, but he’s gotta go.”
It’s obvious that The Imam is throwing Hagel under the bus for a foreign policy that is an utter failure on every front. Hagel was picked for the job because he’s a follower. All he did was travel the world and mumble into a microphone that we’re doing our best to handle situations that fell out of the sky onto Buttcrack Hussein.
I still remember his confirmation hearings. He was either drunk or he’s seriously lost a step mentally. Dude’s a multi-millionaire and approaching 70 years old. He should’ve retired in 2009 and gone nowhere near a govt. office ever again.
I never wanted Hagel in his office but i have to say, i feel sorry for him. Ending his public service in such a brutally public manner can’t be easy. I always did feel that he was overwhelmed. To be honest, i often thought he was drunk.
He does look like a serious drinker. But I would be, too, if I worked for Obama.
Chuck Hagel struggled to be a functional person. It’s funny that they talk about him like he fought the good fight every day. Chuck never got out of the starting blocks. I have no doubt that he’s less competent than Robert McNamara ever was as SecDef, but he did less damage because he didn’t think big, he just sleep-walked through the job.
Hehe, three posts in a row saying that Chuck came off as drunk all the time. I agree, it is what it is.
Amen to your comment. The sorry part is WHO will the scum replace this scum with??? Maybe Weasley Clark.
Rose asked Hagel to elaborate on comments that he made in a speech at the Reagan Library last weekend. In that speech, Hagel said that Americas military capability, while still the best in the world, is being threatened.
Hagel re-iterated that to Rose, but also left viewers to wonder about the direction that President Obama is taking the military.
I am worried about it, I am concerned about it, Chairman Dempsey is, the chiefs are, every leader of this institution, Hagel said, including Pentagon leadership but leaving both President Obama and Vice President Joe Bidens names out of his list of officials who are worried about the U.S. militarys declining capability. Hagel said that the Congress and the American people need to know what while the U.S. military remains the strongest, best trained and most motivated in the world, its lead is being threatened because of policies being implemented now.
While President Obama has downplayed the ISIS threat, even calling the group jayvee as it rose to power, Hagel warned last week that it is a threat unlike any other we have ever faced.
Weve never seen an organization like ISIL that is so well-organized, so well-trained, so well-funded, so strategic, so brutal, so completely ruthless, Hagel said. We have never seen anything quite like that in one institution.
And then they blend in ideology which will eventually lose, we get that and social media. The sophistication of their social media program is something that weve never seen before. You blend all of that together, that is an incredibly powerful new threat.

OK, guys.
I read the article and All comments.
So, what are we, and particularly the military, going to do about it.
It is obvious that those behind the ‘traitors’ occupying our White House intend on destroying our military capabilities.
It is finally time all of us did something to stop the enemies of liberty.
Active Duty ping.
Coward - traitor - You can say that again...
Ha! Ha! Ha! Hagel laid down with some dogs and got up with fleas. I think it’s hilarious.
If he appoints a muslim a majority, if not all, of the republicans will vote to confirm. It’s a religion of peace, you know.
