Cruz calls on Congress to block presidential nominees over executive action
Fox News ^ | November 23, 2014

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said Sunday that President Obama refuses to accept that only Congress has the authority to establish federal immigration laws and that members should block the president’s nominees and some funding until he rescinds his executive action on the issue.

“This is a stunning and sad display by the president,” Cruz, a Republican, told “Fox News Sunday.” “We need to impose real consequence.”

Cruz suggested, as he has since Obama announced the executive action Thursday, that Congress should take action next year when Republicans, who already control the House, will also have the majority in the Senate.

Obama might try to do recess appointments.

I would put absolutely nothing past him.

You know that Obama will do recess appointments in December, as many as possible. Recess appointments are supposed to only be good for one year, though.

if there is a vacancy on the SC, then the president is simply out of luck

Isn't it a little surprising, even for arrogant Obama, to not have had one of the old dems on the SC resign while they still had a majority in the US Senate?

I'm wondering (hoping) Obama made a toxic miscalculation. These new US Senators ran pretty conservative. They're not in DC yet, so haven't been compromised. There are some more strong conservative voices in the HOR. There just might be a stronger voice supporting constitutional conservative discontent and it will be harder for them to traitor us.

Cruz is from texas, second only to california in its love for illegal immigration from mexico, and the two leading states for drug trafficking and illegal employee exploitation. The current governors of both states are ardent supporters of illegal immigration, and are supporters of La Raza.

Any politician from the border states should be immediately scrutinized, and their motives held suspect. Asssume that they have been compromised by foreign governments and business interests. Make them prove otherwise.

Is Texas Governor elect Gregg Abbott a supporter of illegal immigration and the criminal organization La Raza? I don’t believe so but could be wrong.

From this article:

“Abbott, the state’s attorney general, has filed 30 legal challenges against Obama and intends to sue him over his recent executive action”

I don’t believe for a second Ted Cruz supports them either.

“We need to impose real consequence.”

Yeah. Right.

As has been pointed out, the rule of law is dead in this country. What good will it do to impose legal consequences, when the target of those consequences at best bends the law, at worst happily ignores it?

If you don’t approve his nominees......he’ll just wait for semi-annual recesses and appoint them then.

If you fund one part of government, but not another, he’ll just transfer funds.

I can’t believe the GOP is so stupid that they can’t understand this. This man can only be defeated by being arrested. So, impeach him and march the military in to physically remove him from office. Any other action is a joke.

Using the law against Obama is like using bullets on Superman. He’s immune.

“Not to brag, but my recommendation, FROM THE OUTSET, has been that NO JUDGES (and possibly no others) be confirmed, until this lawlessness is undone.

That means if there is a vacancy on the Supreme Court, then the president is simply out of luck.”

So here is the set-up -

The current Senate setup is to need ONLY 51 votes to confirm anyone and everyone other than a Supreme Court nominee.

The recently re-elected Kentucky Rino Mitch McConnell is currently undecided on whether to go back to 60 votes or keep the current 51.

The question - If Mitch keeps the 51 vote minimum how many RINOs will vote fro Holder’s replacement?

Bonus points if you name the RIONs

He shouldn’t get ANY other nominees through for the remainder of his presidency.

The Dems showed us all how it’s done during the end of Bush’s presidency. The Senate will remain in session EVERY DAY, for the next two years.....

(reap it, bitches!)

This is nothing. There is a constitutional crisis and these types of responses are lip service. Oh, we are upset. But they change NOTHING. What I want to see is real action—defunding, impeachment, even government shut down. Stop Obama.

Actually at this point, no more judges or appointments even if the EO's are undone.

In fact, Congress should ignore the EO and heavily fine and arrest anyone that complies with the illegal EO.

“Actually at this point, no more judges or appointments even if the EO’s are undone.”

Ideally, yes, but, unfortunately, presidents are allowed to make appointments and the other party has to defer to them, to a reasonable extent. So, for what you say, we CERTAINLY shouldn’t do more than they have done in the past. In the case of Bush Sr., I SPECIFICALLY remember the Democrats putting a freeze on his nominations at least 9 months before he ultimately lost to Clinton. So we could do that much.

As to arresting people in the Executive Branch. DEFINITELY!! We need a credible Republican presidential nominee, be it Cruz, or even Huckabee (for that matter) that will simply say that ANYONE who BREAKS THE LAW to comply with the latest presidential dictate will be ARRESTED the day after the new Attorney General is sworn in. No different than when we executed Nazis that claimed to only be “following orders” as they murdered millions of Jews. The law is the law, but putting the fear of arrest and FELONY CHARGES into some of the people working for Obama might just do the trick.

...and ANY REPUBLICAN seeking the nomination might just want to consider stating the above, as it will put him (even Huckabee, who I can’t stand) HEAD AND SHOULDERS above the pack.

To: jazusamo; All
should block the president’s nominees and some funding until he rescinds

Boehner's office says that attaching a rider abrogating the Executive Order items would accomplish nothing, since that section of the INS is self-funding and does not require re-authorization every year. The fallback is to hold back a portion of government revenues, which would just be a mini-shutdown: no H1Bs, no Green Cards, etc., for example. So Sen. Cruz had proposed a rider.

I haven't seen a response from Cruz on this point.

Is he conceding to Boehner that he was mistaken?

Cruz needs no help on this; he can put a hold on every nominee that comes up confirmation. When you are going to get blamed for something, at least get some pleasure out of it.

I've no idea but here's an excerpt from an interesting thread posted yesterday if you haven't already seen it.

"(ii) CONGRESSIONAL ACTION.—No major change may be implemented unless the Congress specifically provides, in an appropriations or other Act, for funds for implementation of the change.

Immigration Reform Control Act of 1986 "NOTICE TO CONGRESS BEFORE IMPLEMENTING CHANGES" (Required)
