A rookie Cleveland police officer shot a 12-year-old boy outside a city recreation center late Saturday afternoon after the boy pulled a BB gun from his waistband, police said.

I saw that. . .waaa. . .that Tomba guy should be fired.
First, the investigation was not been completed and yet he his making statements like they are fact. Idiot.
Second, pointing a weapon at someone IS a threatening act.
MOUT is restricted by LOAC and ROE, and are military in nature, conducted by the military.
Scenario’s and ‘correct’ responses will be in many, if not all cases, vastly different than civilian police work.
Good question.
“Very” is what I’d guess.
“making hundreds of arrests”
You were a police officer?
Local? County? State?
“Actually, Im on your side generally. Look at my posts. Ive pointed out that law and order bootlickers seem to have slithered off of this board over the last several years. But this particular incident is not a very good example for trigger-happy policing.”
Okay. No, this is far from the worst example, the Dorner hunt. But I have gotten sick of those who think cops are supposed to be above criticism. Monday morning quarterbacking is essential to our society.
As the article stated. . .was observed hiding the weapon when they drove up and drew the weapon instead of putting hands in air when directed.
But hey. . .could have been just pulling the weapon to drop it. . .or not. . .give the ‘kid’ a chance to do either. . .that's the ticket. . .let him shoot first, or not. Bet your life on the thug acting civilized and reasonable, after all, he is just an innocent kid. . .
“It appears that the supervisor stated otherwise, “
Are you that supervisor? Pulling a hidden weapon when directed to instead of raising your hands IS a threatening act.
Seriously, do you really believe what you are writing or are you being deliberately silly and nonsensical?
Never-mind. . .
Well stated and quite reasonable. . .sadly, a rare thing when it comes to police shooting threads. . .
No, I don't feel any differently. From all accounts the kid was not pointing the gun at the officer. The cop had every opportunity to defuse the situation. Nowadays, it's kill first and ask questions later. Have you ever been in a situation where a gun was used against you? Would you want them to shoot you without hesitation? I have had guns pointed at my face and was able to talk them down. Clearly, these rookies are nervous nellies who should not be given a gun. A child is dead.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
“No, I don’t feel any differently.”
That is surprising. Really.
“From all accounts the kid was not pointing the gun at the officer. “
So you are saying the police, when they drove up and observed the thug hiding the weapon and then when asked to raise his hands and the thug pulled the weapon, they should have waited until the kid either shot at them or dropped the weapon.
You are saying you are going to bet your life the thug is not planning to shoot when he pulls a hidden weapon, that you have enough time to defuse the situation.
Very interesting.
First of all, the 12-year-old was not a thug, he was a kid among other kids.
Secondly, the boy may have pulled the BB gun from his waistband but he did not point it at the rookie.
Thirdly, the rookie cops had their guns drawn, pointed at the boy, with their fingers on the trigger. They had the advantage. There was more then enough opportunity to challenge the boy with secondary verbal warnings to lower the BB gun.
Very interesting that you would side with thug rookie cops who are more than willing to shoot a child without trying to defuse a situation. Someday you may be the one in a rookie cop's sights and you will feel very differently. However, you won't look like a 12-year-old. Cops are too militaristic and too trigger-happy, and will do Obama's bidding without hesitation as he destroys our rights.
Perhaps. A brother-in-law of mine was partnered up with a 120-pound female on patrols in tough crime areas. He took the first opportunity to switch duties, as she left the dirty work to him, she didn't carry her "weight". Another brother-in-law of mine quit the police force because he saw too much brutality of cops against others. I have a nephew who is a cop, and my sister worries about him because he is only about 150 pounds. He does fine.
I saw corruption, too (sons of rich bosses = “untouchables” in that locale). There’s too much corruption. They tell the less influential constituents to move to other jurisdictions, if they don’t like it. But they also say that corruption is everywhere—true but nothing to be proud of.
Don’t move. This is our country. Many of us have been here for many generations, which is not so for most volks in political circles. Be impeccable but outspoken. Do what is healthy and productive despite efforts to stop productive, healthy activities. Clean up at least one little bit of it. For one, too many public officials have been pretty sneaky about helping to legalize dope. Some of them will do anything for more debt/revenues.
I preferred the job title, patrolman, by the way. The feminist phrase, “police officer” was not a smart one to use, in my opinion. It’s been causing trouble.
You see a little boy who had potential. I see a young thug who was acting in a thuggish manner: (1) brought a gun to a rec center, (2) hid the gun in his waistband when the cop showed up, and (3) pulled the gun out of his waistband when told to raise his hands. I don't know how good the kid was with a gun, and I don't want to find out. Neither did the cop. Given how many people can reliably put a round in the black at 25 feet in under a second, plus the change that a beginner could put a round in the black (the cop or a bystander) by luck just as fast, I'm okay with the cop shooting in that situation.
Okay. But I say he was a child acting stupidly. 12-year-olds do stupid things. Unfortunately, it led to his death. However, he had a toy that would in most instances not cause a death. As for how good a shot he was, we don’t know. I’m a pretty good shot at the range. However, I’m using two hands and carefully aiming without stress. I don’t think many people can put a round in the black at 25 feet, as you say, especially with one hand in a stressful situation. Heck, many cops can’t. You can bet the cops had a good bead on him with two hands, while the kid didn’t. That was an execution.
