If cars can drive themselves, so can trucks. Which means that truck drivers will be nearly extinct in 10 years,

I’m not as bullish as some pundits on robo driving becoming the standard in the next decade.

They would reduce accidents quite a bit, and the tort attorney industry (which is a huge influencer in politics) probably doesn’t want that to happen.

They’ve already been forced to branch out into SocSec disability and such as safer cars have reduced the business quite a bit.

Based on what Emperor Obama is going to do tonight, I expected “unskilled laborer” would be #1.

Trucks are going to be harder to robodrive. There’s just way too much touch and feel in it (watch somebody back one up around a corner, the deliberate semi-jackknife is an amazing thing to behold). I think it’ll take an extra decade, so when robocars are standard, truck drivers got 10 years.

Obama will illegally grant 500,000 new work visas for technology worker immigrants.

also 5 million new work permits for illegals. throwing that many new legal workers into competition with Americans who have no jobs is extremely evil. unemployment will skyrocket for Americans

http://immigrationreform.com/2014/11/13/white-house-source-leaks-details-of-obamas-10-point-executive-amnesty-plan/

“A State Department program will offer visas with a pathway to citizenship for 500,000 new technology workers”

that’s a quote from that article

And...
I did not see any of the traditional skills like
plumber, electrician, A/C installer/repairer, or carpenter anywhere on their stupid list.

Truck drivers bring in median hourly earnings of $18.37, and in 2014 nearly two million workers counted themselves among their ranks.
= = = = = = = = = =
Trucking companies are far too discriminatory and something should be done about their hiring practices.

Everyday you can see signs on the back of trucks advertising jobs but they specify SAFE DRIVERS.

This surely is discrimination against those that wish to be unsafe drivers.

Just because one likes a ‘taste’ now and then and gets sloppily drunk should NOT be cause for the nasty trucking companies to discriminate against anyone.

Took several years to get rid of the Caboose on freight trains, Morse Operators were necessary to have aboard lest a ship could not get underway.

Those Unions can be ‘tough’....

Hey without jobs being created, well....what good is a work permit?? If we have that next crash and an extra 5-10 million mouths to feed, what then?

That work card will be like the 72 virgins or Zer0care...you got it, but you can’t use it!

I think assisted driving will be commonplace and already exists. Totally driverless is far off in the future.

So you built a truck that can drive itself ( and load itself, check tire pressure, refill fuel in the reefer unit, chip ice off of the windshield, etc.)? Details please!

How they wrote that with a straight face is beyond me, Truck driver avg of $18.36 an hour, merchandiser, $13 an hour. Now that’s something to aspire to.

I like much of the information on Forbes, but I utterly detest “click-baiting” like this article.

If it’s a list, LIST IT! Don’t make me wait for the same series of lame-@55 ads to load over and over and over again, with each click. With that out of the way:

A few other careers that can NEVER be fully automated:

Plumber, carpenter, electrician, operating engineer, mechanic, chef, bartender/barmaid, appliance technician, HVAC technician, etc.

Granted in some of the above listed a little college can help, but a full degree is unnecessary and is not an absolute prerequisite for a satisfying and productive working life.

Many companies advertise jobs that they do not actually have. They pile up resumes and interview people they have no intention of hiring just to see who’s out there...

I have advanced degrees and I teach at the University level. I tell my students every chance I get that with the internet, no one should need a degree for any job. Just a certification test.

That said, the free internet may not last too much longer...
