The main event is finally here. The race for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination is now underway.
This is shaping up to be the strongest field of Republican challengers in recent memory. After the GOPs strong showing in the 2014 midterms, the list of those who sense an opportunity, and want to seize it to run in 2016, is both long and distinguished. While the Democrat presidential primary is essentially Hillary Clinton (their 2008 also-ran) or bust, the Republicans have a deep bench of potential standard-bearers...
Though it may seem early to some to already be posting odds on the Iowa Caucuses, keep in mind we are less than 14 months away from Iowans casting the first official ballots of the 2016 presidential election. Below are my opening odds...
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: 2-1 The former caucus champion is the opening favorite because he has two things going for him that matter in Iowa hes socially conservative and Iowans like him.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz: 4-1 He has the backing of the activists and has the best chance to put the long-dormant Reagan coalition back together again.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker: 5-1 Hes a repeated winner in a blue state, and has enough establishment and conservative credentials to put the George W. Bush coalition from 2000 back together again.
Dr. Ben Carson: 10-1 He already has a campaign chairman in each of Iowas 99 counties, and Iowans ask me about his potential candidacy more than any other. There are a lot of people who want Dr. Carson to sell them on his bid.
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul: 15-1...
Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum: 20-1
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal: 25-1
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: 30-1

The leader seems to change in Iowa about twice per month. This is pretty meaningless.
A few months ago, it was Rand Paul. Huckabee doesn’t have a chance.
After the Hawks crush the badgers on Saturday, Walker will be even money and go on to sweep 533 electors.
Yes, I have been drinking.
The Paultards always stack the deck in IA. NH is a suburb of Boston, so it will be Jebbie. The real race starts in SC.
I am pretty sure about one thing right now. Rick Santorum should NOT run. You had your time, stop taking potential Cruz voters. Also, Huckabee can go pound sand.
And after they gave Gayham their seal of approval during the primary season, I’m not holding out much hope. Jeb will play the pied piper of hamlin this election and lure many rubes into supporting him because he’s the ‘only one who can win!’ and ‘he appeals to Hispanics!’ and ‘he can win Florida!’
Before November, he’ll have endorsed gay marriage and complimented Hillary on her SOS tenure, denounced the birthers, and will lose 40 states. Still there will be the usual suspect freepers saying that you’re a traitor unless you vote Jeb.
Sen. Rand Paul, I think will cause the conservatives problems.
I hope he flames out fast.
Santorum Huckabee and Carson need to be exterminated by conservative Iowans ASAP
youre a traitor unless you defeat Jeb
Hawks? or Hawkeyes?
If so, I hope they can stop the run better than the Huskers did.
When did the huskers stop the run? I came in late, so I may have missed that part.
Good point. You probably spent your time well away from the game, since their run defense was not exactly stout.
Hawkeyes is the correct name, but those of us who are life long fans (or those visitors who have experienced the pink locker room) refer to the team as the Hawks.
When I was in school there from 1956 to 1960, I never heard them referred to as Hawks, only Hawkeyes. “On Iowa, on forever more, on Iowa, onward as before....”
Deace endorsed Huckabee in 2008. This was back when Deace had a very popular AM radio talk show. I wonder if he is pulling for him again.
probably for Huckabee. Stupid is as stupid does.
or: You can’t fix stupid.
I am praying that Paul isn’t godzhillary’s Perot. Please, don’t, Paul.
Exactly.
Iowa picked total duds in 2008 and 2012. Let's hear about New Hampshire, they voted for the eventual nominee those same two cycles, while Iowa was picking corn.
