I’m also scared of being too close...precisely because some idiot could push me over the edge...either by accident or intentionally. But I suppose if I lived in NYC and rode every day, I would get complacent.

“What’s odd is that the man is middle-aged. Not the traditional profile of a knockout game perp.”

The guy does look half bald, and with a bit of a middle aged belly. I assume this is why he prefers to ‘push’ rather than try to knock somebody out cold...he just isn’t physically capable of playing the knockout game.

Pushing people into subway tracks is starting to become a habit with sickos.

Nothing about misbehavior on the subway, except when there’s a seat they literally run to it so they get it first.

Huh? I’ve been told New Yorkers are so congenial and accommodating.

The New York Post had the best coverage of this, as they usually do concerning events in NYC. The Post article points out that the video ID is based on several assumptions. It seems that after the incident the subway station was closed, and many of those waiting on the platform left to catch a bus. One person who witnessed the push boarded a bus and recognized the pusher. He kept quite for a 30 minute bus ride, but once the suspect left, he alerted the bus driver, who called the police. More time passed as the police scoured the area around Grand Concourse in the Bronx looking for someone who fit the witness's description. That's where the surveillance video turned up.

No. That was a different thug pushing a different productive citizen on to the subway tracks in front of a train.

Not once did they mention it was a black male - in the video or in the online article.

Not once!

Mental Illness is purvasive in society - all these shootings are gun crimes, they are crimes by mentally instable people. Same true here, maybe we should outlaw arms and hands because they can push people to their deaths.

Street hood making his entry into a gang?

He looks kind of old for that, although I suppose I shouldn't assume all entry-level gang-bangers are under 30.

You should try visiting (but I don’t recommend it if you like having money in your bank account, don’t like jerks, don’t like cold weather, don’t like bad public transportation, don’t like other tourists that stop in the middle of the sidewalk to take pictures, etc etc). The only thing I can recommend is the food. There’s too many restaurants to count, and you probably couldn’t eat at them all in 30 years. There’s the ridiculously expensive Il Mulino’s, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

I spent a little time in Berlin last year and the lack of chain restaurants was nice and the beer selection is outstanding.

About 15-20 bucks for a snack and a beer, $50++ for a nice meal. That’s progress.
