2nd Grade Material Says: "The Government Gives Us Rights"
Youtube ^ | 11/14/14

Apparently according to a homework sheet being given to our 2nd graders in this country about how to be good citizens, the government *gives* us our rights. Did you know that?

Then the teachers can simply teach that basic rights are INHERENT within the condition of being a human being. All persons have these rights by virtue of birth. They reside within each individual and cannot be restricted or taken away by anyone. We were all Born Free before there were any governments at all, anywhere.

If such can be claimed for animals, then, as animals, ourselves, such can be claimed for humans. No need to invoke Deity and no need to even mention Deity. This totally defangs the atheists. After all, they have rights, too, without believing in God.

to a homework sheet being given

Given by who?

I find several links connecting the teaching of the Constitution by Phylliss Naegeli.

Unfortunately, the various links support the notion that the government granted rights. However, it seems to be more out of ignorance than part of the progressive agenda.

Nonetheless, it is sad to realize she is in the business of educating young people by misleading them.

"out of ignorance"

It used to be that schools taught this subject in the broad historical perspective beginning with the Magna Carta.

I wonder how many freepers have ever heard of it?

There’s a worldview and religious/theological assumption involved with “unalienable”.

For a right to be “innate” and unalienable, there has to be an Objective Source of those rights. An Ultimate Authority.

Now, leftism/liberalism is simply the political expression of humanism, which rejects the Divine in favor of an “ultimate authority” being of human origin. And, since that authority ultimately comes from the ability to force others to comply, their theology points to government as the source of rights.

It makes sense, but you can’t make them understand “unalienable rights” when their basis of truth is Humanism.

"Then the teachers can simply teach that basic rights are INHERENT within the condition of being a human being.......without believing in God."

It is not as easy as you suggest. What do you say when a student says, "then why did no one recognize these human rights for all those many years throughout the history of the world? And why do many countries even today not recognize them (and to this 2nd question you cannot point out that people that do not believe in God as their supreme being, have someone else that they look to as being "supreme" and thus ruling over them.

For, you see,if we cannot explain that the right is given (granted) by God, and we say it just "is" then the students cannot quite fathom how something just is, with no authority behind it. For instance, I can say, "I own this house, I am a homeowner." But in reality without a proper deed to show as evidence and authority, how would I be believed if questioned? I cannot just say, "I was just born with it, inherited it." Rather I need some entity with proper authority to back me up. Thus we cannot leave God out of the equation when we claim inalienable rights.

America was founded upon the concept of the God of the Bible, and atheist can deny that all they want, but it does not change the facts. The government the founders set up allows people to chose to worship other than our God, or even to not worship any god. But they did not foresee a future where the God-less would actually be able to take over the country.

Constitution only lists a few very of the rights we have

The point is that the Constitution did not grant peoples’ rights. The purpose of the Bill of Rights is to protect rights from government interference.

Many of the misunderstandings begin with people who adopted the notion that the Constitution is about the people; it is not. The Constitution is solely about how the government functions within the enumerated powers given the government by the Constitution.

Indeed, without recognizing the ONE ultimate authority,

all this discussion of right and wrong and where rights come from,

is simply a matter of opinion, enforced by the ability to use force.

Ahhh, the 80s. Thank god I found Deep Purple, Motorhead, and Ozzy and related acts when I was 10-13 years old. It made my life. Still going strong with metal 35 years on. God bless rock n roll and good riddance to that weird new wave crap that almost got me due to some weird goth friends.

Yes they must deny the existence of God so that the state becomes the “creator” of our “unalienable rights”.

However, if the state can take our rights away then they were never “unalienable” to begin with. It’s all just a word game with them.

I don’t think they really believe in the concept of “unalienable rights”.

Because that would limit their ability to use their superior intellect and morality to impose cosmic justice on the society.

Another reason to begin home schooling your children/grandchildren immediately. If you can’t do that, enroll them in a quality, conservative, private school.

Get your kids away from the government indoctrination centers ASAP!

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
