With the general election a happy very happy! memory, now comes time to elect the third-ranking constitutional office: the Texas House Speaker. Lobbyists and lawmakers are accustomed to citizens checking out as the governing begins; in truth, citizens must be more engaged than ever.
STRAUS AGENDA: STOP CONSERVATIVES
House Speaker Joe Straus and his leadership team have made it abundantly clear that killing conservative reforms tops their agenda. Spending limitations, tax reform, education reforms, pro-life legislation
are all viewed with disdain by the Straus leadership team.
We know that because they have blocked those measures for two sessions running, despite a near super-majority of self-described conservative Republicans. And we know that because Straus team members have openly stated their intent is to block conservative legislation coming from the Senate
RACE IS ON
State Rep. Scott Turner, a dynamic conservative from the Metroplex, has announced his candidacy for the speakership. Turner has been travelling the state speaking to conservative groups. In the times I have heard him speak, Mr. Turners message has been focused on making the Texas House truly a house of the people, a legislative body that is transparent and open to the citizens.
What is your legislator supporting: cronies perpetuating a culture of backroom deals, closed doors and retribution, or a leadership fairly giving a voice to the reforms Texans demand?
If you dont know today, you will know on Jan. 13, 2015, when House members take a record vote. They will be voting for either an Austin insider who uses his power to thwart good government, or a conservative campaigning on a message of reform and integrity. Who would you chose?
Let your representative know on what side you stand. And dont forget what they choose.

The Montrose crowd seems to like her ....
Montrose used to be a really cool place during the 60s.
Why did he keep his seat in the 2014 primary?
What wonderful statesmen fighting to restore our Republic. They should be choosing who represents Texas in the U.S. Senate as well. I'm sure they can come up with a better choice than the person who Texas citizens elected, namely Ted Cruz. < /sarcasm>
Yeah, no shite. You gotta figure rats would combine with RINOs to elect RINO (or sometimes even rat) Senators in most Republican states. Kansas leg probably has enough RINOs to have elected Orman this year.
Matt Beebe, a great tea party candidate did run against Straus in both 2012 and 2014. Both times he got about 38% of the vote in the primary. Straus is backed by all the lobbyists, special interests, Democrats and RINOs. In 2012 Straus received something like $4 million in campaign contributions versus about $80 thousand for Beebe. Also the district is in San Antonio which is fairly liberal compared with much of the state. In addition, a lot of low information voters pull the lever simply based on name recognition.
“Why did he keep his seat in the 2014 primary?”
Same reason Boener, McConnell, and others made it through their Primaries - he’s got power. In our case, no one expect Dan Patrick to sweep into power with a 20 vote margin, and I suspect that many if not most Republicans expected (or at least hoped) he’d lose, due to the fact that he connects with the base.
So this was going to be more of a “transition” government rather than a “movement” government...and no one saw Straus being isolated to the extent that he is now.
Tell you what, if Turner unseats Straus for Speaker, Straus won’t be raising $4 million in 2016.
Unfortunately it would “out” me if I leaked that a “Rookie” State Rep I know, who is waffling, and already been muscled by the Strauss “thugs” to vote for him in January...
I believe the Strauss clan has lobbied very heavy, and behind closed doors to snag as many rookies as possible to pad the results...
It is very disappointing, and I have let him know I am not very pleased with this uncertainty of his position...He should know better...
I do not wish a lot of real “ill” on some people, but I would not be very sympathetic if Joe Strauss were to get “shingles”...
