Islamic State militants have beheaded Peter Kassig, a U.S. aid worker and ex-Army Ranger who was captured last year in Syria while on a private humanitarian mission, the White House confirmed Sunday.
U.S. officials authenticated a 16-minute video, released on various social networks by the militant group earlier in the day. The video also includes footage of the mass beheading of men said to be Syrian government soldiers.
"Today we offer our prayers and condolences to the parents and family of Abdul-Rahman Kassig, also known to us as Peter," President Obama said in a statement released by the White House, using the name Kassig adopted after converting to Islam. "We cannot begin to imagine their anguish at this painful time."

The same as the defenders of the Alamo, FREEDOM!
Was he armed there? It’s ridiculous to be in that part of the world without having any means to defend yourself.
Was this one performed by “Jihad John”? Wasn’t there a news item in the Brit media that he’d been critically injured in a drone attack?
One Day to grieve, following by unlimited bombing runs
I can proudly state that I served with a young man that followed all orders but one. He would NOT fire his weapon.
When asked, he would calmly state that it was wrong to kill and he would die first.This was RVN 1969 he was the ‘real deal’.
His MOS was changed from infantryman to cook trainee.
I could easily see him in the same roll.
More than a few conscientious objector medics awarded the Medal of Honor and they did not carry weapons,chaplains too.
I don’t think he hit the golf links afterwards this time....
"least of all the muslim faith". Meaning, that if such acts were to represent a faith, they would represent Christianity before islam.
