Was he armed there? It’s ridiculous to be in that part of the world without having any means to defend yourself.
I can proudly state that I served with a young man that followed all orders but one. He would NOT fire his weapon.
When asked, he would calmly state that it was wrong to kill and he would die first.This was RVN 1969 he was the ‘real deal’.
His MOS was changed from infantryman to cook trainee.
I could easily see him in the same roll.
More than a few conscientious objector medics awarded the Medal of Honor and they did not carry weapons,chaplains too.
