A Dallas-area school board fired a teacher Friday who posted racially charged tweets about the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.
Duncanville Independent School District trustees unanimously voted to terminate Vinita Hegwood's contract. Hegwood, who is black, has apologized for comments made Nov. 7 on her Twitter account that were laced with expletives and derogatory references to whites and blacks. Administrators have called the remarks "reprehensible."

The school board rejected a resignation and instead fired her with cause. That doesn't affect a teacher's pension, but it makes him or her ineligible for unemployment benefits, and future employers are told the teacher didn't leave in good standing, school district spokeswoman Lari Barager said.

This is so unfair ... cause her union apologized on her behalf ... and she was only reacting to a series of threatening and racist attacks against her by strangers who disagreed with her expressed opinions!
She has no business in a classroom with children - of any color.
On one hand, everyone’s entitled to an opinion and the right to free speech.
On the other hand, once you are an employee, you can be construed as an agent of your employer, and subject to their rules.
That is lightning fast action by a school board. They should expect an appeal on this, regardless of how correct their decision might be.
I think the Dallas schoolboard just made her “give a squat f**k” about how her opinions were received by dumb, duck a**ed (that is pretty funny) crackers.
Because teachers fulfill an important growth and formulation role in the development of young minds, I firmly believe that their conduct, both in and outside of the classroom, comes under the heading of moral turpitude.
This is a common clause in many entertainment and high profile career contracts (e.g., as in endorsement deals for products by a celebrity). I believe that this also flows into teaching, even if solely by inference. The school board did well in firing her with cause. Taint that part of her resume, at least.
This is why the states are screwed when it comes to spending. Nothing -- not even this -- can cause someone to lose a pension.
Can you imagine what she’s been telling her students in class over the years?
Parents need to really look into the classrooms in that district. Become classroom monitors for a year. Send a hard message to those govunion teachers, admin and board that they are watching. And then publicly inform the board on all instances of political, racial or religious bias observed or related.
In California, DC or New York, she would have been named Teacher of the Year.
This is exactly why we MUST get UNIONS out of our schools; and any other GOVERNMENT entity.
THE UNIONS ARE THE REASON NOBODY GETS FIRED .. because if you fire their member, they will LOSE UNION DUES. So they stack the deck and don’t allow people to be fired.
Don’t be stupid and post in social media using your name . But her reaction to ferguson proves how stupid she is
I started a new incognito Twitter account just so I can say whatever I want to say and not have it come back to my employer.
“That is lightning fast action...”
I was gonna say the same thing...especially considering the teacher is a member of a protected class. Somebody greased the wheels of that governmental body.
Expect a lawsuit in response...
what were the so called racist attacks against her? All I can find is her tweet.
Wouldn't want the taxpayers NOT have to pay her for the rest of her life, now would we? No, the pensions are sacred, and public employees are "entitled" to them, no matter what.
No worries though, she'll get hired in the Detroit or DC systems and called a champion

Sounds pretty heavily representative of AA teachers union “teachers” in most public school systems.
She’ll be quietly reinstated after this all blows over. You watch.
Where I worked, an employee was caught favorably changing her time sheets AFTER they were signed by her supervisor. Immediately fired but reinstated one year later in good standing thanks to the union.
