Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell conceded the gubernatorial race Saturday, issuing a statement a day after independent challenger Bill Walker was declared the winner. [ ]
Parnell has served as governor since July 2009, when Sarah Palin resigned. He won election in his own right in 2010. Palin had endorsed Walker.

This is pretty incredible.
How so?
Walker is also a Republican. He ran for governor in 2010, as well, and finished 2nd to Parnell (then the incumbent) in the GOP primary.
This time, he ran as an Independent from the git go...and won.
Palin endorsed him a.) as a fellow Republican and b.) because his primary issue is her issue: a natural gas pipeline to Canada and the lower 48.
Parnell had negotiated a deal for one, but had evidently given away Alaska's stake in the project. Walker wants to retain a larger share for the state...and that has been Palin's position all along.
It is incredible for a number of reasons, and a national story, or should be, it made Alaskan history.
Sad day. Alaskan taxpayers and business, prepare to bend over and take it from the takers. Walker OWES the rats. Big time. They are the only reason he won.
Sarah Palin shows she’s got more influence than Karl Rove as yet another candidate she backed won. If she was a Dem, the media and the GOP would be in awe of her.
Begich needs to concede as well. What an Azzhat.
Walker WAS a RINO who left the party cause it’s too conservative for him. In this race he was endorsed by the rats, that tells every rational person everything they need to know about him. They dropped their own campaign and had their nominee ILLEGALLY become Walker’s running mate. They do that cause Walker is more CONSERVATIVE than Parnell? Hahaha lol.
Parnell was right to cut Palin’s oil tax, the voters endorsed the tax cut. She was spiteful and foolish to endorse liberal scum because of that. Parnell is a conservative, Walker is a liberal and his LT one heartbeat away from the Governorship is an ultraliberal. This outcome is tragic for the people of Alaska. And sadly every idiot on here that supported Walker will see I’m right.
Give Walker a shot, he ain't a democrat and about time for some change to help our Repub Party up here become more accountable.
>> And sadly every idiot on here that supported Walker will see Im right.
I don’t suppose you supported Walker...
Only SCOTT Walker.
I don’t support democrat endorsed former RINOs who are running against conservative Republicans.
There are still votes to be counted and begich seems to be winning 55 per cent of these late counted votes. Sullivan may have gone to DC prematurely. The last batch of 30 thousand votes counted on Friday had Sullivan drop over a thousand votes and begich gaining. If the same percentages hold with the next batch of 30 thousand late votes...the race could end up being nearly tied.
Correction: I saw an update that had Sllivan’s lead go back from 6900 to some 7600 plus votes.
“...Give Walker a shot, he ain’t a democrat and about time for some change to help our Repub Party up here become more accountable.”

Thank you for provided us “lower 48ers” some needed clarity. IMHO Alaskans did good in this election in both the Governor’s race and the US Senate race.
But SARAH! supported him, so that makes it all right.
Which shows the danger of putting personality over principle.
Cronyism between politicians and big businesses is not conservatism.
Its corruption and all the propaganda in the world doesn’t sell me on its virtue.
“Sad day. Alaskan taxpayers and business, prepare to bend over and take it from the takers. Walker OWES the rats. Big time. They are the only reason he won.”
I doubt it, hes was life long Alaskan Republican insider. The Alaskan Republican party will welcome him back with open arms, and allow him to run as a republican 2018.
You forget we are dealing with pragmatic RINOS and the guy has the endorsement of the former Republican Governor and perhaps most prominent Alaskan. It doesn’t make any-sense for him to turn down the offer particular as it likely comes with no strings.
“Cronyism between politicians and big businesses is not conservatism.
Its corruption and all the propaganda in the world doesnt sell me on its virtue.”
I agree, but our agreeing on the definition of Corruption doesn’t change the fact that politics often runs on that. One generally has to work within the system that is in order to overturn it. In this case overturning cronyism will require setting interest against interest and ultimately abolishing the power of interest. As the old tale goes, It is power that corrupts and must be destroyed.
As of Friday evening end of counting, Sullivan’s lead stood at 7,718 votes. There are only 9,800 remaining ballots and they will be counted on Monday. It’s over, Begich is just being a jerk about it.
