Former President George W. Bush has a simple explanation for why he almost never criticizes his successor: He feels it undermines the office of the presidency.
In an interview that aired Thursday night on Fox News' "Hannity," Bush insisted he would not attack President Barack Obama even though he continued to have strong opinions about national politics.
"I don't think it's good for the country to have a former president undermine a current president; I think it's bad for the presidency for that matter," Bush said, according to video posted by Mediaite.

A man of class. . .one would hope carter would take a lesson in acting presidential when not still president.
Or course a statist would say that it’s bad to criticize the government.
You also thought it wasn’t good to defend yourself then or now. The guy is blamed for everything and is concerned about the office, please.
Pray America is waking
I like his approach as it annoys the media. They want more reasons to skewer him.
Somehow I DO NOT think that Madison and Jefferson had ANY problems Ripping into the other when they WERE WRONG!
GWB has more class in his $hit than obola has in his whole family...
Obama undermines the office.
Anything that undermines Obama upholds the office.
Republicans had better put down the rulebook and take a look at whats been happening to their country.
There are times when the holder of the office is a determent to the country and who needs to be criticized. That’s when it is called for.
Class act, but can you even imagine the level of criticism Obama will be dishing out on the next president? It will be epic for sure.
With all due respect to #43, this COUNTRY IS BEING UNDERMINED by #44. That is more important IMHO President Bush.
Actually, I am not sure I agree. Obama has surely trashed him repeatedly. Seems only fair to defend yourself.
He says that like it's a bad thing.
He’s right. Too bad the former Dem presidents don’t see it that way.
Considering president Chickens#!+ is planning to live around DC once his term expires, it's pretty certain he won't be adhering to your sensible advice.
I saw Alice Cooper on College Gameday last Saturday
Which reminds me:
“No More Mr Nice Guy”
Okay.
He’s an honorable man.
That’s yet another thing he has going for him that most democrats cannot or will not understand.
