In her first public remarks since Election Day last week, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi defended her decision to run to keep her post atop the House Democratic Caucus, and doesnt sound likely to relinquish it anytime soon.
I dont understand why this question should even come up, the California Democrat said at a press conference Thursday. Im here as long as the members want me to be here.
Pelosi suggested that she wasnt, as many expect, looking to serve one more term as minority leader before retiring in 2016 when, colleagues hope, Hillary Rodham Clinton will be elected president.
Im not here on a schedule, Pelosi said, except for a mission to get a job done.
She also hinted that there was implicit sexism in the constant rhetoric of will she or wont she.
When was the last time you asked Mitch McConnell arent you getting a little old, Mitch? said Pelosi of the Republican senator from Kentucky.
McConnell, who is 72, has been in Senate GOP leadership since 2003 and the minority leader since 2007. He was earlier on Thursday elected Senate majority leader for the 114th Congress.
At 74 years old, Pelosi has been in House Democratic leadership since 2002 and has been at the very top of the caucus power structure since 2003.
Pelosi acknowledged that the 2014 midterm elections were disappointing for her colleagues, especially for the incumbents who lost re-election. She reiterated an argument she has made over the past week that the Democratic Party needs to do more in the next two years to engage a whole new base of voters, saying that the campaign should revolve around the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.

I saw this on CSPAN this today.
She looked haggard and OLD. Especially around the eyes.
She has the shakes too—with her head.
She needs to step down.
The Incubus has used her up and spit her out.
I am sure Steny Hoyer is waiting in the wings for a chance.
Of course Rustler Reid is an better yet example.
If Mcconnell remembers Johnathan Gruber then case closed.
‘Dems need to do more to engage a whole new base of voters’
Got it.......Amnesty will bring several millions new voters to the Dems. At least they are up front about it now.
“Women” like Pelosi are why John Valby has had a long career.
Don’t look it up if language offends.
Don’t go Nancy. You’re the perfect botoxed face of the Democrats.
“Oh, Fran, no one thinks of you as a woman, really. “
She’s from San francisco where they do
Nancy Pelosi demonstrates the Democrat strategy for dealing with terrorists.
Mitch McConnell? How about Harry Reid? He always makes me think of the stereotype of an undertaker or Mr. Burns on the Simpsons.
Like the visiting team pitcher who’s getting knocked all over the ballpark, I say: LEAVE HER IN!
A mean old hag is the perfect face for Democrats in Congress as their leader.
The only thing she’s right about is, McConnell should go. With a younger Majority Leader Republicans would look like the party of youth and energy, while the Democrats can run one of those two old bats for President.
Perfect.
The difference is that when Mitch McConnell or other men are asked if they are too old to be in Congress, they tend not to whine about being treated unfairly but to make the case that they are still fit and capable.
BTW, what the hell is wrong with her left hand?
It’s a hand-hemorrhoid from being an ass for so long. She needs to just die in bed.
Like most in Congress, her unstated goal is to go direct from the Capitol building to the mortuary.
And given the longevity profile of Italian women, she may well serve another 10 terms or so.
And since she won this month with 82% of the vote, she ain’t going anywhere she doesn’t want to.
Balanced out by all the collagen implanted in her face.
LOL. Uh, Nancy, maybe they're asking you because the Dems are about to boot you out. She sounds like Captain Queeg, paranoid, bitter, accusatory. Was she rolling a pair of ball bearings in her hand while she spoke?
When was the last time McConnell waved his hands around like a homeless schizophrenic trying to direct traffic in downtown Manhattan?
