Yep! "Brotherhood of Evil" -- it probably made the Godfather even MORE meaningful for you! Thanks for the tip.
I was hooked when I saw the first scene of the first movie. Every character at the wedding looked like someone who was in my family’s, especially grandparents, circle of friends. I like the movies as much for the portrayals of Sicilian culture as the mafia stuff.
To give movies a break -- they really cannot do what a book can do. A book can tell you what's in the characters' heads, naturally and instantly -- what they're feeling, what they're thinking, and why; film or stage can only directly do that awkwardly, with narration or some other contrived vehicle; otherwise, film and stage must rely on music to imply what's in the characters' heads, and even then, that's iffy because sometimes, the music is not so much to communicate the sense of what the characters are going through, but to suggest an emotional take to the viewer.
Movies/stage cannot hold a candle to books in that department. I still love them all, though!!!
Wow!!!! {^) I am of Whitey Northern European Celt and Pioneer-vintage California Mongrel (with a little bit of Mexican tossed in for good luck) extraction, so your grandparents' circle would be pretty exciting for me!
The movie I put off watching for YEARS and wish I hadn't because it is such a friggin' GOOD movie, is Goodfellas. I liked it even better than the Godfather!
well, we know one thing, no nomination for this one. Half the bad guys will be in the audience.
The Goodfellas was based on actual folks, of course, but you can trace historical events throughout the GF. Senate hearings, mob moving base to Nevada, Cuba, Vatican bank scandal etc.
Yep, they really toned down the Woltz character in the movie.
I have been to Sicily, but no one here or there relates to those films and most didn't even see them.
I'm a movieholic and was drawn base don word of mouth and then got hooked. But many of my extended family don't do movies. I'm one of the oldest now and those who passed away had more culture exposure than my kids. My only sibling is a total wasp and not at all influenced by Italian cultural.
My only characteristic is that I am hard heading, stubborn and can be vindictive until I settle down. All Sicilian traits. Vendetta is a Sicilian concept, and of course Sicilian Vespers.
He told me he never saw or met the man, but the movie was as close to what he understood of the facts.
It was the only and last movie he watched in a theatre over a 50 year period.
I think Hollywood is a minor problem compared to our public school system. We need an in depth investigation. If I were a child molestor I wold go where the kids are. I think there is a big coverup by the teacher’s unions. Somebody tell me I am wrong.
It is probably 100% in Hollyweird, I don’t think the public schools are that bad. In actual numbers obviously the public schools are the biggest concern
“Stopping short of saying that Hollywood was protecting its own, Ms Berg confessed that even small movie festivals had refused to show An Open Secret. We have this one screening. Maybe we will get distribution but it is not very likely, she said. But people will talk about it.”

Duh, you don’t think these people are being paid like corporate executives because they are any more talent than the rest of us, do you?
