Appearing on Glenn Beck‘s radio show this past week, Dr. Benjamin Carson took a vastly different stance from most conservatives on the issue of gun control, claiming you shouldn’t be able to own semi-automatic weapons in large cities.
Carson became a newfound conservative hero last month when he spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast and laid out a series of criticisms of ObamaCare, political correctness, and tax policy right in front of the president himself. Many called the speech “inappropriate” given the apolitical nature of the event, but many conservatives lauded Carson for his “bold” and “sensible” suggestions for policy reform.
Asked by Beck for his thoughts on the Second Amendment, Carson gave the popular pro-gun argument: “There’s a reason for the Second Amendment; people do have the right to have weapons.”
But when asked whether people should be allowed to own “semi-automatic weapons,” the doctor replied: “It depends on where you live.”
“I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” Carson elaborated.
However, if you live “out in the country somewhere by yourself” and want to own a semi-automatic weapon, he added, “I’ve no problem with that.”

I had a lot of hope for him.
“No right”... ok i think someone needs to re-read the constitution before he is considered as a serious candidate.
He seems to have good conservative ideals in many places, but technically incorrect on a lot of things this job requires you to know.
Dang! So we should only have single action pistols, lever action rifles, or pump action shotguns?
There’s a simple solution: ban large cities.

This was a year and a half ago. I wonder if he still believes this. If so, he’s done as far as I’m concerned. He might be a good doctor, but the guy is no leader in the Allen West sense.
Seems to me that the actual need is much higher in the cities. The right is absolute.

Carson is not a conservative!!! During the Oregon primary, Carson ignored the conservative Senatorial candidate and endorsed a liberal Republican women who campaigned in favor of gay marriage.
Thats a deal breaker. But I kinda suspected it.
Like a “crazy person” can’t do damage with those, right? They never heard of snipers?
A “crazy person” can do more “damage” (i.e. cause more mayhem) with an automobile or a truck in a city than with a semi-automatic; he’s shielded inside a motor vehicle, at least for a time.

Why don’t they FORCE “gun buyers” to own GUN SAFES? They did it with healthcare, didn’t they?
Why not just insist on safes. That would keep the guns in the proper hands mostly.

Non-gun people have no idea what a “semi-automatic” is. It just sounds scary.
