Student photos of skimpy Michelle O lunches raise ire of parents

HASKELL, Okla. – A chicken patty, small scoop of mashed potatoes and carton of milk aren’t enough to sustain a high school boy.

But under the school lunch regulations championed by First Lady Michelle Obama, that’s what Haskell High School served recently.

Haskell High School senior Darrel Bunch took a photo of one of his recent skimpy school lunches and sent it to Fox 23.

“It’s mostly the portions,” Bunch says. “Last year we started getting less food.”

“Last year, my boys started calling me, ‘Can you please bring me something to eat?’ ‘We’re still hungry,’ or, ‘This is gross,” the student’s mother, Cheryl Bunch tells the news station.

Another photo taken by a different student showed a single cheese-filled bread stick with marinara sauce.

"When they serve a bread stick and marinara, it’s like, ‘Here, I’ve given up on trying to find you something nutritious and healthy,'” Cheryl Bunch says.

The school refused to allow the news station to show that day’s lunch servings. They wouldn’t even speak on camera.

Haskell superintendent Sharon Herrington defended the lunches off-camera, saying students are offered five items and they are required to take three. That means the chicken patty, glob of potatoes and milk would qualify as a complete lunch under the federal rules.

It’s too bad we don’t have a photo of that lunch - a side-by-side comparison would really drive the message home.

I simply will not go into the areas controlled by the FSA without body armor and loaded to the teeth. It’s like driving around Mogadishu. There are people on the streets, hanging out on street corners, and outside bodegas. None of them have anywhere to be, they all have an IQ of 80 or less. Their English is unintelligible and most speak some ebonic dialect that is somewhere between 1970’s jive and jibberish.

None, and I mean none, of that crap is remotely healthy. They can cut portion size all they want but it’s still junk food.

I’m with the poster above who said if you’re gonna let the government feed your kid then shut up. Otherwise, get your ass out of bed 15 minutes earlier and pack your kid’s lunch.

Perhaps when these lunch pictures go viral, the international community will start sending care packages to obamian schools. For only a few pesos a day you too can feed a starving American child.

A growing young boy who is active needs a 2000 calorie lunch...

Simply not true. 2000 calories is an enormous meal fit for a grown man digging ditches all day, and the only way to achieve those numbers and still make it fit in a human stomach is by loading it up with fat. One medium potato has about 110 calories. One egg is about 70 calories. Two spuds and four eggs made without butter or milk is 500 calories and is quite the meal that a school kid would have difficulty finishing.

Not true. Boys who are involved in sports need more calories than that.

Only if you want to see that man disappear. When I did heavy manual labor, I required 3600 calories per day to maintain body weight, and that was in warm weather. If you live at this latitude, you can be looking at closer to 5-6000 calories a day if you do heavy work in winter weather.

Right. They are not just maintaining body weight, but building muscle and growing, too.

At 2000 calories a day in my teens I would simply maintain weight, and I’m a woman.

Actually it is true. A full grown man performing a laborious job all day, not playing tag football during fourth period requires somewhere in the neighborhood of 2500-3500 calories per day, not per meal. I’ve been calorie counting for years. People have a distorted idea of what a dietic calorie is because most food is loaded with fat. A burger king triple whopper large meal with fries and large soda has about 2100 calories. For a normal person that qualifies as breakfast, lunch, and dinner in one sitting. And I didn’t even mention the 104 grams of fat, or over 2 grams of sodium you get with that. Eat that everyday and you’re gonna trade those triple beef patties for a triple coronary bypass in your fifties.

You’re wrong. You’re equating a grown man with a child or teen. Your weight issues are not relevant here.

The school would lose a lot of “federal” money if they were to ignore federal “guidelines”. Who needs laws when you can blackmail school districts to do what the queen wants by regulatory decree?

In the mid-80s HS athletes bought TWO trays at lunch, and fought over each other’s leftovers, and those trays were 2000 calories easy. But that was when the USA produced and built real men.

Pajamaboys probably get along OK on a couple egg rolls and celery. And Mooch thinks American male kids are or should be pajamaboys.

I’m picturing a well fed Queen Michelle thrusting her finger down at poor skinny children proclaiming: “Let them eat kale”.
