A growing young boy who is active needs a 2000 calorie lunch...

Simply not true. 2000 calories is an enormous meal fit for a grown man digging ditches all day, and the only way to achieve those numbers and still make it fit in a human stomach is by loading it up with fat. One medium potato has about 110 calories. One egg is about 70 calories. Two spuds and four eggs made without butter or milk is 500 calories and is quite the meal that a school kid would have difficulty finishing.

Not true. Boys who are involved in sports need more calories than that.

Only if you want to see that man disappear. When I did heavy manual labor, I required 3600 calories per day to maintain body weight, and that was in warm weather. If you live at this latitude, you can be looking at closer to 5-6000 calories a day if you do heavy work in winter weather.

I simply could not live on less than a 2000 calorie lunch that was indeed protein and sugar before football practice, before afternoon swimming practice, or rowing (crew).

Literally four big PB sandwiches (300-400 calories each), a bag of chips ( 300 or so), 16oz chocolate milk (400 calories). that would do, and I would be ready for dinner after practice. This was every day.

At the time I was 6’3’ and 185 lbs. and simply an eating machine. I would eat almost constantly. These days I’m lucky to get 2000 calories all day to stay at 200lbs.
